Top 4 Self Defense Moves for Beginners

Here are 4 simple and effective self defense moves that are great for beginners to use in a street fight. #1 – Hit Straight! Hitting straight will give you a high rate of fire and leave you less vulnerable to your attackers counter strikes. #2 – Cover up. There are better defensive tactics out there, but they require training and time. Covering is a simple easy thing that any beginner can do right away to guard themselves against a punch. #3 – Move! Don’t stand still! Specifically, you want to circle. It will make you a harder target to hit and keep you from moving straight backwards and getting overwhelmed. #4 – Kick. As a beginner, this self defense move is best used as a finisher in a street fight. Docinaplane says:

Very useful video for beginners! Back in the day, when I was a new teacher at a Tracy's Karate studio, I was sparring with another instructor. We had a clash, and I used a two finger flip strike that hit his eye. That ended the session. The next day the boss called me over and said I could hit the other instructors anywhere I wanted as long as the damage didn't show. That black eye was bad for business. Never happened again.

Carl W Byrne says:

#1 is Run! Manage the distance manage the damage. If you want to learn self defense learn JiuJitsu. Punches are a great way to get hurt, so if you are caught in a spot where you must fight learning how to shut those down safely is the best defense. You start swinging without training and proper practice then you are likely to get knocked out or worse.

Brian Powers says:

Wow! You finally used some of the knowledge I have given you! Get out of the fire using the nearest exit! Awesome! Good stuff!

THAC0twenty says:

1 run
2 kick them in the balls and run
3 poke them in the eye and run
4 kick them in the balls, poke them in the eye then run

Bill Murray says:

Great video, as usual.
A better analogy (than a supermodel taking a shower lol) is that you don't need to be a world class formula 1 pilot to drive a car to the supermarket.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld says:

Thanks Jason.I’ve been doing Wing Chun in Sydney Australia for a year and your videos have really helped with a realistic training for me.Also your Modern Warrior book is amazing and I’ll pass it to my son.

William Barnes says:

Shifu Jasen: Thank you for all the free content. I am studying mostly twice a week, three times when most spiritually fit and once when least. I start out with self defence then OODA then Footwork. Then I review one more. I shadow box in my room with finger jab as jab, lead punch, snap kick to groin, knee kick, shovel hooks concentrating on soft targeting as best I can. My city is expensive so I am saving up for your online JKD courses. I will start with Footwork. Most expensive and most important. You are a great self-defence coach. Running away and calling the police works for me. I have added these to de escalation techniques I learned in the 90's. Thank you for all this free content. Great respects, William

Cynical MGTOW says:

I fear not the man who has practiced 1000 kicks one time each, but the man who has practiced one kick 1000 times.

Nick Meyers says:

Eyes, throat, groin, knees. The means to the end doesn't mean jack.

R Sch says:

What, no one is carping on about vertical fist, lead leg kicks, but what about bjj bro?

DamKaKaDaNi says:

Escape, Evade, Equalize, Eliminate. Get out, do something to make space to get out, get something between you and the attacker, Destroy them with sudden aggression. If any of the prior options in the priority becomes available, do those immediately.
