The Truth about Grappling in Self Defense | John Danaher and Joe Rogan Go Out for Lunch
In this video, we discuss the reality of BJJ, wrestling and other grappling arts in self defense or street fights. Also, John Danaher and Joe Rogan go out for pizza because… uh… because I’m a big believer in the idea…

I remember when UFC 1 and 2 first dropped and all the karate and TKD guys were going around saying, "I'd just knee Royce in the face if he tried to take me down". Even back then I laughed at em, and I'm a karate guy!
Stephen Thompson already covered this. Knee to the head is how you counter double Leg Takedown. Check masvidal vs askren, whole fight was 6 seconds and it was a knockout with knee to the Head
Bro the analogy was on point why would you ignore takedown or ground game when it could come in handy. Why would you not learn take downs and grappling when it offers you more choices if you do get into a confrontation instead of just hitting a guy amazing truly deep shit man respect for the analogy’s. this might have had a huge impact on my out look on life
Your impressions are fucking fantastic Mike, it's hilarious. They aren't just funny though, they are actually alarmingly accurate, especially for how many you can do and for someone who it has nothing to do with their job.
I love the way this guy breaks things down I've had this argument with people before over the years I wish I had his gift of explaining. Most of time I just get frustrated and realize they're delusion shout out icymike. Been watching you since first week of Corona you're my favorite YouTuber by far # steal sonnen is a b**
Something I can do 100% of the time that I don't need to practice? Easy! Hitting the floor like a sack of potatoes when I fight a grappler, I'm not only good at that despite not practicing but I'm fantastic at it because I don't practice it, ask me a hard one…
I'm now a senior citizen and I have only been in a real street fight three times. I have been in countless scuffles. I believe the last scuffle I was in, was around in my thirties. I found that people talk tough, but don't really want to fight when things get serious. I took judo lessons for a while, and I believe judo is great in the street. But I never used judo in the street. I did however witness fellow employees use judo at my job when I was young.
Question for viewers: breadsticks or nah?
Had a coach who would speak like man he was annoying asf
I love how Danaher can just clown on the stereotype of himself.
Holy shit! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He looks like John Danaher when wearing the green rashguard
“How can two opposing statements both be untrue” that encapsulates all of misunderstanding martial arts

People that eat pizza with a fork are psychopaths
"Why would you ignore 15 percent of a slice of pizza." That Danaher impression was spot on, Icy Mike is hilarious
Funny stuff, your Danaher voice is spot on.
I've run into the "just never go to the ground" at Krav Maga training, and "all fights go to the ground" from my BJJ bros.
If you can "just not go to the ground" you can likely just not fight and leave…go home…
I didn't know I needed this, but thank you!
Best video you have ever made!
P-something-agated should be a shirt 😂
HOLY SHIT. A Danaher impression too?!

Isn’t anti-grappling just grappling?

Biting,
Ripping,
Scratching,
Gouging.
1. Breathing

Excellent pizza skit 🙂

His impersonation is spot on as always.
Imagine being a black belt and then getting your balls grabbed in transition….
