You fight the way you train and you train the way you fight. In a life-and-death situation, you have 1 to 3 seconds to do something. And I agree with you you don't have time to do a flashy Kempo Technique. In a street fight, you win at all costs. You use anything and everything at hand to win. Once you commit to take action, even if you're surprised you don't stop until you're attacker cannot get up. Thank you for your time
As a martial arts instructor myself who teaches Kung Fu, Japanese Jujitsu, and Combatives, I agree 100%. I've worked as a bouncer and security guard, fought in two Kickboxing tournaments (1st in one tournament, 2nd in the other), and have been accosted in the street and at bars as well. Out of all of those instances in the street, I've fought ONE time. The other times I've ran away, deescalated the situation, or scared the guy(s) off. The adrenaline dump hits different and making fast decisions is definitely an important skill. Great video! #subscribed
Hoodwinked training is a good drill. Basically a Hoodwink is over the head then when its removed they have to deal with the situation as they see it. Another is Bull in the ring. Blindfolded Battle Royale basically move to a corner & keep a high guard when contact move to infight & clinch.
I feel like you identified a problem, but gave no solid solutions. What kind of role-playing games should my students play? Unless I missed it, that was not answered.
Getting a flaming bag o' poopie thrown at me. I hate when that happens. Seems to me meditation would help a lot with the awareness part, and generally remaining more calm and centered. Psychology also tremendously important. Absolutely, dealing with absolutely anything happening at any time and knowing how to be during that is critical. Good video, thank you.
Can't agree more about this. I think you train in a gym of any combat sport, you gotta try to spar with some guy with elusive fighting style.
In personal perpective, I give more time to train footwork and movement. You will be invunerable if you know how to not get hit from any range literally
The best tactic, in my experience, is displayed at 11:00 because most guys cannot punch their way out of a paper bag. If you have been punching a heavy bag correctly for a year or two, somebody coming at you is in for a big surprise. Oh yes.
You have an incredible insight for bringing logic, reason and common sense into the chaos of fighting. On the other hand, you piss me off because now I have to rethink my training….lol
I liked the video preemptively upon start and it turned into a dislike immediately after that jump scare, damn you to hell I can't believe that got me!
Dude I've been thinking about it a lot these days, there's no point in training so much if you don't keep an eye on your surroundings to use what you've trained. Excellent video.

This great stuff. Very people talk about this. And it's such an important element that needs to be addressed when it comes to self-defense.
