Attitude. Skills. Plan.
So…why is this controversial? They gave him every option. They tried less lethal. They tried to work with him. He made a move to use a weapon and he died. Am I missing something?
Controversial? You know…..cops were there for a reason right? They were there to talk to him because he was what, fighting with his wife or something? Well, Mr Smith wasnt following commands, he wasnt lisening, and he seemed very agitated and unpredictable. And then picking up a knife, throwing bikes at police…what did he exoect to happen? How is that Controversial??
So these officers obviously tried to get through to this guy, but they literally are not trained to handle mental health crises like this one. This is yet another example where the city could create a dedicated mental health response team that has advanced degrees in helping people like this. Yes, they need officers with them for safety reasons, but there is a decent chance that this could've been avoided. He actually didn't escalate for quite a while, and a mental health professional could've used that willingness to communicate to create a different ending here.
Man don’t wanna be bias or anything, but it’s a confirmed fact that mental ilness doesn’t make you aggressive. Now on her side, she won the rest of her life in this incident because they saved her from YEARS AND YEARS of harassment and abuse, what else does she want?
PO Alejandre put on a masterclass in de-escalation, even addressing him as Mr. Smith. And others keep using triggering languages like “are we arresting him outside”.
How exactly is a guy razing a knife while on his knees on the floor with a pile of bicycles between him and the cops. really a threat requiring lethal force?
Looks like murder to me. Yes, he picked up a knife but he was on his knees not moving towards the police when they shot him and was not an immediate threat. Any of us peasants shoot someone like this we'd go to prison. What was the objective of these officers? Were they going to arrest him or just talk to him as they told him? If the objective was an arrest they should have tased and taken him into custody long before he got in the kitchen where weapons like knives are obviously available. This isn't Podunk USA, it's LA, where cops are supposed to be well trained and there are all kinds of TV shows telling us how great the are.

How is that controversial? They tried everything to deescalate.

Never call the police
