A father and two daughters were shot during a terrifying Toronto home invasion—and now Parliament is clashing over whether Canadians have the legal right to defend their homes.
During the October 29, 2026 Question Period, Conservative MP Michael Guglielmin (Vaughan—Woodbridge) calls on the federal government to immediately pass the “Stand On Guard Act” and the “Safe at Home” bill to strengthen self-defense protections for Canadians inside their own homes.

The police had one of the home invaders in the hospital. But even thought they had made the connection, knew that he was involved, the let him get treated and leave without detaining him. That home invader is now loose on the streets to do it again. I appreciate that you want an airtight case, but detaining gives you that time to make that case without endangering the civilian population. Why did this happen?
The politicians keep spinning the self defence debate. Bottom line is you will be charged with defending yourself and even if found innocent, you will incur life alternating legal expenses in the process. So, punishment no matter what.

But the funny part him and his daughter would’ve possibly never been shot if we had any right whatsoever to defend ourselves and families in our own homes rather than waiting on police that had their own internal investigations on dirty cops and wait for the courts to charge them IF they catch them? If he had any laws defending him allowing him to protect himself and his daughter it makes situations like this for Canadian citizens hugely different in the citizens favour we’ve watched Canada go to shit as the liberals continue to restrict our firearms freedoms and right to defend ourselves while we are watching our crime get more and more violent each year more and more guns seized each year and our only response is to scrutinize our own citizens and tighten the grip and squeeze the last bit of life Canadian citizens have for any hope in this God forsaken country? When is our government gonna wake up and realize it’s not our own law abiding citizens even making the issues it’s them giving every single drop of fucking power to any criminal in Canada it’s becoming a crime hot spots for people over boarders ffs and that’s pathetic land of the strong and free is now just land of the criminals and fentanyl…saddest shit I’ve ever had to grow up and watch seeing our own government flush our country down the shitter (I live in a co-op my own neighborhood shot someone downtown he turned himself in the guy died from the gunshot wounds he used an alread illegal firearm that he obtained illegally and yet he was sentenced 6 years would get out sooner with good behaviour) so what laws exactly have changed even to punish criminals at all for this when they are seemingly getting off easier and easier the crimes are getting easier and easier to commit but as law abiding citizens we agin continue to lose more and more and more hope that we will have any chance in getting to protect ourselves see our children grow up in a good happy environment or have any chance to fix this sad country’s state

police service response times have increased over the years, the real answer is arm everyone and the crime rate will eventually drop to zero after a few years. those who live in ivory castles dont know the grief of the modern person and will never understand.
