The fact that he had a firearm, and he's a convicted felon. Doesn't matter if he was trying to protect himself, self-defense, he's not allowed to possess a firearm. That's why he fled the scene. Convicted felon. That's why the three masked men targeted him. They thought he was unarmed. He surprised them, but now will face the possibility of going back to prison.
