Q: How to expand the stick?

A: Hold the head of the stick, whip the stick towards the ground.

Q: How to retract the stick?

A: Hold it by the handle perpendicular to the ground (concrete is best, like the sidewalk or a patio, not tile as it can chip or crack the tile), and then give the

metal tip a firm tap to the ground, in a swift downward motion. This should release the locking mechanism and let you collapse the stick again.

I don’t find value in the lanyard (cord on the handle) and it slapped my hand when hanging free and restricted my movement when around my wrist (easy solution, remove the lanyard). I was surprised that so much of the baton is plastic and rubber but believe this would be an excellent training tool because of the light weight and balance as long as the training does not include striking.
