Some gun owners in Houston, TX are retaliating against burglars and intruders by taking matters into their own hands as they should, while police provide some guidance.
It’s unfair to expect people who act honorably, mind their own business, and abide by the law while working hard to support their families to just wait for the police to come and defend them because some criminal decided they wanted to target them because they thought they were an easy target.
Thankfully, Texas gun laws are what they are, and people in Texas can exercise their constitutional right to use a gun to protect themselves.

I carry a gun 100% of the time. Have never pulled it out in public. You don't need a gun until you need a gun. Its better to have a gun and not need one then to need one and not have one.
The reason why crime is out of site in Houston is the same reason why it's out of site in most major cities in the US-the mayor of Houston is a POS socialist progressive, who allows criminals to run free.
High velocity rounds ripping through a criminals body is a highly effective deterrent of reoffending. If those rounds are well placed, they can actually cure the criminal for good.
I have vowed that if selected to serve on a jury hearing a lethal force case that I will refuse to convict any innocent person. I don't care what the statutes say. "Self-defense" is too limited a concept. I believe every person, going about peaceably and doing that which is lawful to do, has a right to survive a criminal attack. Innocent people have a right to assure their survival when attacked with any level of force. An attacker has no right to presume he will survive a use-of-force incident he initiates. The attacker takes the chance that the defender may misjudge even a less-than-lethal attack and respond with deadly force. Who is responsible for this misjudgment? The attacker, because he initiated a chain of invents that the defender did not invite.
I’m a former LEO in a smaller upstate NY county that has been involved in a shooting and been personally shot at; in said county the third shift runs only 2 units for the entire county which can result in a 20+ minute response time. This is the reason a lot of LEOs carry the required 2 magazines plus extra mags as you need to be self reliant for the minutes needed for a response. I carried over 100 rounds while working; you’d also have a patrol rifle and or shotgun and magazines or backup shells there. Guns absolutely don’t make you invincible and body armor doesn’t stop anything but it works great at stopping most all shotgun shells. I have also worked in a large metro police department, the largest in the country, and miss the backup that could/would be there in minutes if not seconds depending on where you are. Though I must say I trust upstate officers more on being able to effectively and accurately put rounds on target, if need be, and not miss. The NYPD had a minimum PQC score in the 70% range while upstate our officers all shot 96-100% on PQC with regular defensive tactics, stress based drills, and malfunction drills so I trust in an actual shooting situation things would go off much better than in the city. And in my case they did as despite being shot at we quickly dealt with the situation neutralizing the shooter within seconds without needing to fire a shot and had him down on the ground and in cuffs in well under a minute; and during all of that we didn’t flag anyone, have any negligent actions, or fail to secure a firearm during the time of going hands on. Training is good/great in that it will allow you to fall back on instinct and muscle memory under stress but frankly I’ve seen some country bumpkins I’d trust with a gun over some NYC officers as they’re just more used to them and don’t, like some LEOs and civilians, fear them like they can kill on their own or they’re overly dangerous. Guns can be dangerous in criminal and idiots hands, sadly common sense isn’t that common but 4 basic principals can keep you safe with a firearm, and that should once again be taught in schools as basic training in responsible handling could save a lot of lives from accidental or negligent discharges. And some personal responsibility training and holding people responsible with consequences could drastically help with the criminal users of guns; making carrying constitution again would so help in NY to bring back being able to defend oneself to New Yorkers so we could overcome this seeming victim mentality so many people are in.
