Always felt the same way about .45– just too much diameter with too little velocity. It's one of those things like the M1 Garand that is remembered fondly but all its power comes from nostalgia. Beautiful, historic, but compared to things made today it's best used as a showpiece than to defend yourself.
I have to agree the 9mm is just a better option , better capacity ,better penetration and easier to shoot for most people the45acp is a great round for 1950!
I don't carry a 45 acp, but I've owned many. Last year I used a glock 21 to harvest a whitetail deer at 16 yards. a broadside shot resulted in a complete pass through with an .75 exit hole. A massive blood trail that contained chucks of lung. It is plenty effective on living tissue. Sorry YM, your bullshit ballistics can't argue with real results.

Besides, 1911's always seem to have some sort of feeding/extraction issues. 45acp's are great rounds, WHEN they come out of the barrel. My Glock works fine with any ammo, any time, period!
Opinions vary. Who gives a shit. It's a matter of personal preference. I carry different calibers. If you feel like carrying a 45, 44, 99, do it. I don't care what peoples opinions are. Carry what you feel is comfortable to you. People tend to put videos on you tube that just stirs people up for more hits on their you tube video.
wow you really are a special kind of special! 45 ACP bounces off of glass . that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard if it will bounce off glass then go out there and let somebody shoot you with it and show how wimpy it really is if it can bounce off window glass dumbass!
If what you say is true than all handgun calibers are obsolete and useless. With your mindset, we should all carry heavy cailber black powder rfiles and six shooters to survive in the era before modern technology existed. Hell forget about handguns all together and just use high power rifles as side arms and use cannons for self defense. I hope your just stirring the pot to get reactions and not really slamming a very capable and powerful handgun caliber that has proven itself many times over

40s&w = 500ft/lb
In winter I carry the 45 acp or my .357 mag. Other times of the year .22LR, .380acp, or the 9mm. All depends on the cloths I'm wearing.

I actually carry a Glock 30 but I have Hornady 45+p Hollow points in it. It's a nice little Beasty.
