Very good. I always believed that the art(s) you practice is/are the best- for you. It is the only one(s) that you are going to get good at, because they are the one(s) you practice.

Gun-dho is good for a lot of people like me who cannot run away fast enough any more.

This is a fantastic video and more vids need to be done on this topic. As an ex-MIL, ex-LEO, I'll say that standard Gov-Fu (government trained martial arts) is tops (for reports), secondly, it's a tie between Judo and Aikido. Normies and others need to look for Krav Maga in their area.

I am a big fan of your channel and you know your skills are first rate but I have to object to this video, more guns is not always the answer.
I see a lot of problems in using a firearm for self defence, not least of which is where is it located on your body/how long does it take to reach for, unholster, aim and accurately fire a weapon vs someone who has you within punching or stabbing range, what kind of weapon retention training is done to make sure you/your family dont end up shot or abducted using your own weapon, how often and easy is it to train these skills so that they remain sharp enough to be useful and not dangerous to others.. points touched on in the video but really they need more consideration if death by shooting is going to be your suggested go to response to an aggressive person.
Trained police usually hit a person with one in five bullets so are you ready to take responsibility for potentially hitting someones child or loved one with any of those other four stray bullets and ruining a bystanders life? What if the situation is reversed, would you be ok walking along with your girlfriend or kids when someone starts unloading a handgun nearby because some kind of aggressive altercation had started? This is what you are advocating for people to do.

Also ask yourself at what range would you suggest people draw a loaded weapon on someone and escalate it to the highest possible stakes it can go? As soon as they are in punching range? Most people will never get a chance to draw and fire a weapon accurately at that range, so then at what range DO you draw on someone?
Picture this: An angry dangerous looking man yells something at you from a car length away in a restaurant carpark at night so shoot and kill him? No? Then how close do you let him get? If he is closer he can punch or stab you.. so then Yes shoot him? Sure he might be planning to stab you steal your car and abduct your family but also maybe he is angry because he things you cut him off at the lights and he wants to yell at you about it.. you wont know but you need to go for your weapon though because as he gets closer then chances of getting an aimed shot off are getting lower with every step he takes, and if you want to stop him with a firearm then you have to decide these things fast. If you decide wrong then is it worth killing a man for that? What about his wife and kids? Will his mom and dad think you did the only reasonable thing you could? I wouldnt expect the average joe to make these decisions without extensive experience and training.
Seems to me that too many Americans treat life like its just another throw away commodity instead of precious. Maybe walking around with a loaded pistol, ready and willing to kill others is as much part of the problem as it is part of the solution.

I agree with the other comments though about a mix of martial based skills being useful to learn.. no mention of wrestling, judo or other take down skills though? Putting someone on the ground and controlling them could be one of the most important skill sets you learn in self defence. Most people dont know judo or bjj so having solid skills in this area (as well as boxing or muay thai, as mentioned, to understand range and defend against strikes) can deal with most situations you will come across. And if you suddenly find you are trying to out grapple another another trained grappler, say a jujitsu practitioner, then there is probably a good chance you can find enough common ground to deescalate the situation and talking it out.

I will end my rant by saying it might be safer for everyone (including bystanders and their children) to start by training a takedown art and BJJ as the best self defence solution.

I fully expect a lot of hate for this comment but if it saves even one innocent persons life from a stray bullet then it will be worth it.

I had a friend who trained with Royce before the first UFC (He ended up attending the first two events). We got jumped at a party and he pulled guard but the dudes friends started to stomp him. I run up with my drunken vale tudo and start throwing bombs and they scatter. As me and my ex are throwing his lifeless body into the car her brother is getting whaled on in the drivers seat. Now I have run over there, I see my other friends running thanks for help I'm thinking, I get knocked down, get up and whack the dude whos attacking the driver, finally get back into the car, someone smash the back window and we take my friend to UCLA ER. Moral of the story is don't be a drunk teenager lol.

SURVIVAL SCOUT says:

now what you want to look for is the art and style that you like BUT you should NEVER settle for one style always mix, then for fighting theres real fighting and competition fighting. Real fighting is where ever, whenever no rules. you want to break real fighting up, first the mibes and techniques you choice too ur liking, its all about the strategy and tactics, it there one or more opponents or likely opponents, do they have weapons, is it worth fighting when you could escape, should you use a weapon. keep in mind to change strategy, tactics, moves and techniques after the situation and choose how deadly you should be after the situation. theres never a best martial art for REAL fighting with NO rules its just up to youre liking what to use but REMEMBER its the strategy and tactics that matter, be smart have a big fight iq

I fought a hundred of times on the street and in the gym… Trust me fast strong explosive is the key!!!!!!! But you got to be in training to do that….

I went to jail over 50 years ago. I can never ever legally own a gun. and I can't legally carry a knife. But I have been a boxer and coach. And combat martial arts all my life. By trial and error I created my own system for the street. But nowadays folks are not punching and grappling. They are shooting. usually ambush style. I want badly to equal the advantage. but if I get caught with a firearm I am going to jail. which is a bummer because I have firearm training and weapons training. And all around me people are carrying. I have a weapons cache but that takes time to get it. and I know it's illegal but I rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Anyone who says one art is better than another needs to quit thinking in the organized sports mindset. No rules, no refs, and no fairness will quickly beat an organized art. Have a gun, now how to use it, and get the hell out of there.

The best self defense is a firearm. If you can't get a firearm get a taser if you can't get a taser get a peperspray. Anything that doesn't involve direct physical contact is fine just learn how to use it right
