What is considered self-defense and what isn't in Hawaii?

The man who shot and killed the suspect in Waianae over the weekend was arrested for murder but released pending investigation. Some say he may have acted in self-defense. But when does self-defense cross the line? Island News spoke to a long-time deputy prosecuting attorney for answers.

Hawaii's use of deadly force laws require a duty to retreat…. I wonder why Mr Chin, nor the journalist, didn't bring that up: you can only shoot in self defense if you're unable to retreat here in Hawaii…. I know, it's ridiculous
