Look at him tower over that guy. It was completely self defense and that Tanner idiot got what he had coming.

Crotchy says:

Maybe the police should really be defunded after all since a lot of people in the comments (and even Hard2Hurt) aren't suggesting he should have called 911. Or even security.
He was in such danger that he had to shoot the guy but not enough danger to call out or phone out for help?
Make it make sense!

3kko Used Flash says:

Wasn't self defense but he should have told him stop or I'll hurt you

Crotchy says:

"I was afraid for my life". That excuse works for everybody including cops 😢

Richard Huskey says:

Does anybody give a rats patoot about your opinion?

Gil Ed says:

Mike u r right 💯%. It was wrong to follow and harass but not deserving of a chance to die, aka get shot. Unfortunately the whole karma thing might have overruled the man made law and took matters into its own hands to teach that boy a lesson ( that he missed.)

Scott McCain says:

I'm on the fence with this one. Castle doctrine and hold your grown do not apply here. He was not trying to back off from an encounter. There wasn't an encounter. Someone was putting a phone in his face. Is that irritating? Sure. Can it seem threatening? Sure. Nobody put hands on anyone yet though, so I fail to see where the justification for deadly force comes in. Typically (and it depends on the state) with self defense it's comes down to using commiserate force. That means you match force for force. If someone is using deadly force, then you can use deadly force. If someone is throwing fists then someone gets a black eye and you all go home. I fail to see where he was in fear for his life or limb. I agree with other commenters. There had to be some kind of nullification going on. I wonder if the standards would be different if he had murdered the guy? Pranking sucks – sure – but it's not the legal systems job to prevent pranks (as long as they are lawful), and the punishment for pranking shouldn't be getting gut shot. You might not like it, but come on, that's ridiculous.

Chris Deadman says:

So you think instead of using his gun he should’ve started a fight? You think the small little scared dude should’ve hit the 6’5 man who’s fully committed to making the small dude uncomfortable. Wait and on top of that you think starting a fistfight was more reasonable? What a brain dead take on this. Sure we all wish we lived in a world where men settle their problems with good ole fistfights but that doesn’t work for everyone in society because sometimes little people get targeted by much bigger people and the gun is SUPPOSED to equalize that. That’s exactly what happened

Rugdg13 says:

idk, im a woman and have never been in a fight in my life. I will admit I'm very much inexperienced with self-defense options and likely have a similar mindset to the jurors. So, I put myself in his shoes and while i hate it happened…I don't shame him about it. Here's my thought process:

If they behave this aggressively in public with witnesses, I fear what they will do if they get me alone. And if they are FOLLOWING ME despite me telling them no, "I'm gonna call the cops" etc., and physically leaving the area. He is acting "off" and idk if he's on something. I am in danger.

NUMBER 1, i'd Call for help, But If I can't call for help…and I can't run away… I'm acting FULL angry raccoon backed into a corner. Get away from me. I'll do jail time ALIVE before my crumpled and sexually assaulted remains are found behind a dumpster in the parking lot.

I cant afford to be cute and "play fair" and "show 'em my gun" and try to threaten 3 men away from me in a situation where I WILL NOT win or break even if i "wait for them to do something". I barely punch one man, let alone fight 3 simultaneously. I can pepper spray 1 man, but accurately spraying THREE before they take 2 strides forward and grab me? That's a losing bet. I have no obligation to preserve the wellbeing of my aggressors after i've made a good-faith attempt to de-escalate and run away from the situation.

I do worry about where that bullet may go after it pierces a target… it could've hit someone important. So yeah, punish for that.

I may be one of those "idiot" jurors… but imo Those 3 bullies played Stupid games and got an Amazon same-day delivery stupid prize.

StrawHat83 says:

I'm unsure how other states view it, but Virginia distinguishes between assault and battery. What Tanner was doing to Cook with his phone was assault. Had Tanner put hands on Cook, that would have been the battery. Since Tanner was assaulting Cook under Virginia's legal definition, Cook had justification to shoot Tanner in self-defense. The discharge of a firearm indoors is always added, but it is usually dismissed after the discharge is ruled as self-defense. This was self-defense. Tanner assaulted Cook and would not stop. Tanner continued to invade Cook's space. If you can defend the "first punch," you should be able to defend this shot.

P St says:

fuck around and find out… but most important thing is that this event is proof that guns in a civilian's hands is a no go.

D G says:

H2H- you are simply WRONG. So if he took your advice and if he, ONE, small man with no fighting skills, punched or kicked the BIG man who was being aggressive, then BOTH, 2 men attacked and killed him, that would be OK? I think not. It was 2 on 1. He was under attack. He did try to push them away and was told very clearly NO- we are going to continue attacking you.

Step back for a minute my dude. Most people on this planet do NOT have your level of self-defense skills. Put yourself in their shoes. The equivalent here is if 10 Big Men approach and started very aggressively harrassing YOU. That is what it felt like to this one, small man vs. these two bigger, aggressive men who would NOT stop. To this day, they still do not stop. Why this YTubr is not in jail I have no idea.

There needs to be strict laws against PRANKS that cross the line (most of them.)
