Every morning, it's good to stay limber, to do yoga exercises, and/or tai chi with proper breathing techniques. There are good YouTube videos on keeping your joints, arms, legs, neck, shoulders, ankles, etc. limber while avoiding any extreme exercises or stretching your body is not ready for. I'm 67 years old and still very strong, fit, and healthy. I do 400 full pushups, which take 4 to 5 sets to accomplish. Before I go into the other exercise room and finish with 2 rounds of fast skipping. I also go for 30 – to 90-minute walks. I still practice my boxing moves with 5 lb. ankleweights on each ankle and 5 lb. dumbbells in each hand. I try to do 4 to 6 rounds. Then I add another 5 lb. ankle weight on each ankle and do 3 to 4 rounds.
I started doing street defense Judo in 1968 at 11 years old. I could judo flip over my shoulder bullies onto the concrete or grass. Then, several years later, wrestling. At 17 years old, I joined the Ottawa Athletic Club, Beaver Boxing Club, and Harry Villeneuve's Karate and Kickboxing Studio, Hatha Yoga and meditation. Several years later, I was training under different teachers in Shaolin Kung Fu, Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, etc. I also practiced Iron Shirt, Iron Wire breathing and iron body conditioning. I adopted a plant-based diet and vegan lifestyle in 1983. I consume a raw, whole food, nutrient dense, no oil, plant-based diet of mostly organically grown foods.
It's great to develop confidence as well as relying on your inate intuition and wisdom to decide what to do on potentially dangerous or violent situations. I prefer to be a compassionate, peaceful warrior. But if I have to fight, I will do the best I can to protect loved ones and myself.
The place we want to escape to, is the place we never have to leave. It is possible to live defensively to avoid the places and situations that are more likely to be violent. I do it, it's called the 8-Fold Path. However, once all alternatives to violence have been exhausted, FIGHT! 🙏🏼
I have a brown belt in Judo and have been exposed to (trained basically) CQB. But, I'm an old fart…77. I work out a lot but need more training to make up for my age. My number 1 rule is to avoid a fight at all cost.
Are there any moves for defense when you are elderly and need a wheelchair in place of walking long distances. Also, I'm hunched over so when I'm standing I can only see the lower half of someone's body.
Right after I joined the Marine Corps and before I left home for good to go to boot camp, my Dad told me always try to avoid confrontations and walk away whenever possible. If that is not possible and you need to make that decision quickly based on your gut feeling of the situation, or when defending your family, make to diffuse the situation and strike quickly to hurt or disable the person. Fighting someone is never a good decision to make, but if you decide you have no choice, don’t be indecisive, strike to harm. It’s that simple! Semper Fi!
The key to self defense is long term training. I started with a variety of arts when I was 13. These include karate which I continued until double hip replacement at age 60. I wrestled in junior high school and college. Judo was a part of karate training. I am now 70. Last time in real life situations due to nature of work I used was when I was 68, fended off two attackers. All those years of training made self defense a reflex.
IMHO, in today’s society verbal de-escalation is obsolete. People, men AND women seem to instantly go from 0-100 emotionally and behaviorally. I’m a 64 y/o man, in good shape and I don’t ever leave my home without pepper spray in one pocket and my P365 in the other. The pepper spray is my first choice if I can’t simply walk/run away but I’m at peace with using the pistol if the situation warrants. I always want to walk/run from trouble but if that’s not possible I’m going to fight dirty as hell to save my wife and myself.
Always good content!
Great work Matt, thank you

AWARENESS. HARMS WAY. BE READY AND PREPARE. BANG.
Delighted to find your channel.
I have to say I won my last fight by 100 meters.
Don't use headbutts.

Closing the distance puts you within range of their knife.
