The biggest surprise to me here is that the driver had a "legal" firearm. In SA, majority of taxi drivers have firearms.. and I'm not just referring to pistols. I don't use public transport much, but as recent as a few months ago, I took a taxi to fetch my car at my mechanic's.. and I was a bit nervous when we went through one dodge area, as I know taxis and passengers sometimes get mugged on that route. When I was adjusting my knife in my pocket and putting my cash in the side of my sock, I saw the driver adjust his firearm by his seat 😅.. it made me feel a bit more at ease.
The nonchalant attitude of the driver on this video, is because violence and survival of the fittest can be a common thing on our streets.
And yes, I'm aware that my more privileged South Africans are going to disagree with my last statement.
THIS WAS MOST DEFINITELY THE UBER DRIVER'S "CIRCUS AND MONKEY'S," AND NOT A THIRD PARTY ENCOUNTER ON HIS PART, AS THE CRIMINAL ACTIONS OF THE CARJACKERS CAUSED THE MARKED VEHICLE TO BUMP INTO THE TAXI, DIRECTLY GETTING THE UBER DRIVER INTIMATELY INVOLVED IN THIS SCENARIO. ALSO IT WAS STATED THAT THE CARJACKERS POINTED GUNS ST HIM THE INSTANT THEY SPOTTED HIM. GOOD WORK, UBER DRIVER! RESPECTFULLY
Now that I have 2 daughters I probably would have left it alone, not knowing what that was all about to begin with, could have been marshals or some kind of undercover, you just never know, if it’s a direct threat to a woman or child then yes I would have but I’d have to really think quickly and assess the situation better knowing I have two kids now
Yes, because he didn't put him self in the situation. The situation was brought to him by the Uber driver bumped into him. He didn't think he was walking into a car jacking/gun fight.

I am a convicted felon from over twenty years ago and am not allowed to own a fire arm. I learned my lesson and have honestly CHANGED and now have a large family ( four small girls) the rest are grown . What can I do to protect my family in a not so safe neck of the woods?
TAPIFFS Threat is down? Accomplices? Partner ok? I – Am I injured? Firearm – Is my firearm still in the fight? Follow up actions- How can I stay safe? Seek help- Are police on the way?
I'm not sure the taxi driver had a choice. He got out to assess damage, but immediately found himself looking at the carjacking. My guess is that once the perps noticed him, he'd have been targeted as well. I suspect that his actions fell under the heading of "Enlightened Self Interest"…
I don't think he intended to get involved in a shoot out. It just played out that way when he was checking out what seemed like a simple fender bender.

I think the uber driver got shot when he was just going to get robbed..the taxi driver was more dangerous than rhe robbers..I could be wrong

The taxi industry (that is +90% Toyota Quantums) is at "war" with Uber, so maybe the taxi driver "friendly fired" one shot into the Uber driver.

There was only one carjacking to start with. Once everyone sees it they go and try their luck too. Very common.
