To me my handgun is not loaded unless theres one in the tube

guns4funcajanajustin says:

Always Loaded! You need time to turn your light or laser on if you have the
time. Agree!

MrBulletpoints says:

Great video. Loaded is definitely better if you can.

metaltrooper62 says:

I agree with you. I keep my pistol loaded and ready to go. Some times you
won’t have the time to react so having your firearm ready is a major plus I
think. I don’t have kids living with me but when I did I taught them about
gun safety. They knew not to mess with any gun in the house. They didn’t
have access to my firearms most of the time. When I was a kid my dad always
had loaded guns in the house and it was known not to mess with them.

Matt Brindle says:

I always keep one in the chamber and a full mag while I’m at home and
during ccw. I have 3 children and my gun stays in my sights at all times. I
do not lock it up it stays on the nightstand, end table, desk, or
holstered. Train yourself and stay aware of where your gun is and children
are at all times. If your child gets a hold of your gun it is not the
child’s fault, it is your own!

Kahr Karrier says:

gotta have one in the pipe for sure, always ready for the
unexpected…..good topic JH!

GrOuNdZeRo7777 says:

Dude you are wrong! Don’t you know that a gun can go off by itself because
it’s having a bad day? It happens in Hollywood all the time! 😛 Especially
if they fall off the stairs, They get so pissed they shoot everybody in
sight ;)

rls303 says:

Every pistol ready to go, every rifle has loaded mags but none in the
chamber. It’s been about a year since i counted but the last time i did i
could shoot 690rds without having to reload any mags, not paranoid just
ready =)

TRprepper says:

My pistols are all loaded, now my rifles and shotgun is loaded but not one
in the chamber. Plus in a stressful situation you may short-stroke the
slide and cause a jam. Or you may be holding a person back while you draw
your gun and not have both hands to rack the slide.

Ed USAF says:

IMO Loaded at all times, a lot of folks think you can rack a round with no
problem, but under stress that can definitely be a bad thing keep it ready
at all times and safe it with little ones around. Thanks for sharing Bro!!!
;)

Rich4150 says:

Absolutely needs to be at the ready, good vid!

General Banter™ says:

Yes …. you should ….end

Ruebon Cogburn says:

You’re going to weaken your firing pin spring by walking around charged all
the time….
Every gun I have in the house is loaded, uncharged.

bombbuster72 says:

I have kids…I keep my HD gun (loaded) in a quick access drawer safe. I
also have a spare magazine, It doesn’t take much to have it and I have it
available if necessary.

Well said brother. People who think bads guys are going to run away due to
a sound havent been paying attention

Worldwide Bushcraft & Survival says:

To me, it does not make sense keeping the chamber empty. I know people who
have small and curious children who disagree with me, however. I guess it
is pretty much person preference and the gun owner should do what they
believe is safe.

Great video, bro.

>>>100% agree bro! Absolutely correct!<<

DWilhoite Ky Guns & Fun! says:

Great vid Colonel! I keep all the firearms I plan on using for personal
protection or home defense locked and loaded…..The safety is my finger!
Peace, Colonel DWilhoite

12GaugeTommy says:

good stuff bro i keep home defense guns hot and loaded as far as ccw unless
im carrying a revolver i normally dont keep one in the chamber

Austin Stevens says:

You are right, having to rack the slide could be your death. You may not
have time. An unloaded gun is useless.

PIT Archer says:

An unloaded firearm is about as useful as a dull knife. Actually the dull
knife can still spread butter so a blunt knife is more useful than an
unloaded firearm.

Jennifer Young says:

My carry and home defense options both have one in the chamber ready to be
used should the need ever arise.

NewMexicoShooter says:

Always loaded, period.

MatteoSixSeventyFour says:

Are we really having that conversation? What is the point of having a
firearm for SD if it is unloaded? Thats like keeping a spare tire that
isn’t inflated. Now I’m sure that some “safety sally” soccer mom karate dad
is going to give me their story of how they need to have an unloaded
firearm. But if safety is your worry I suggest you keep the firearm secure
or on your person. Within my own home I carry. And I’ve had young children
in my home. Kids were never allowed in my bedroom. If my firearm wasn’t on
me it was locked up in a quick draw safe. Which was a rarity. All other
firearms were secured and inaccessible to unauthorized users. I kept it on
me 99.9% of the time. I’m home now and my gun is in my a shoulder holster.
Which I’m wearing.

Hoping and praying that the cocking sound will deter a criminal is silly.
As it does not always induce the desired effect. For the more hardened
criminal you’ve now announced you are not only home but given a decent
indication of your location. For the criminals not working in a solo
capacity the element of surprise is now lost.

Practicing the Israeli draw may be helpful but it increases the time until
you can effectively engage your target. Be you an “operator” or not. I
believe studies from accredited organizations show most shootings occur
around 21 ft and within the time span of 4 to 3 seconds on average. Seems
like a great way to let someone close the distance before you can engage or
allow an already armed criminal get the first shot in nearly all scenarios.
Seems silly to me either way you cut it. If these are your personal choices
so be it. It is after all your right. But these are clearly the stop gaps
to over come either, a lack of training, familiarity or a predisposition
toward a certain level of negligence. Just my take

Jarhead great video, brother

In most cases you,

CWB1863 says:

When i first starting carrying i had that mindset.”I have enough time to
take care of the threat”! After doing research, i came to the
realization…uhhhh no i don’t! There’s absolutely no reason to carry one
without a round in the chamber.Unless you wanna pull it out and crack
someone with your firearm. 😉 I have it on me or very close at all
times.Good video as usual brother!

Brian King says:

Excellent video!

Richard Sabo says:

I agree 100% on your stated reasons for keeping a round in the chamber of
your CCW. I also agree for the home defense carbine or rifle.

However, I do disagree on it when it comes to the home defense shotgun,
with several caveats. The racking of the shotgun should not be your /only/
deterrent, but it is good if used in conjunction with other deterrents. It
is loud and distinctive. If it is to be used as a deterrent, it should be
the final warning, and even then only if the would-be intruder is still
outside. Once the intruder is inside or their entry door/window is in
imminent failure, it’s a major scenario changer. I do agree that it is
/probably/ not going to work, but if you end up shooting them, you gave
them /every/ possible opportunity to disengage, which will look better in
front of the grand jury.

Regardless of whether someone agrees or disagrees with that, it’s much more
important that you have a plan for how to handle an intruder, and practice
it. At my house, by the time an intruder has been shot, they’ve been warned
five different ways that they should not be here. Three of those ways
express that force will be used.

freecali4nia says:

100% right

onpoint1977 says:

100%agreed brother,! I was raised around Firearms and taught from a early
age to respect guns. Everyone of my guns are loaded my primary has one in
the chamber and my home defense shotgun also is ready to go. My children
know not to touch or mess with my guns and they know what they’re for. 3
girls and will all be taught to respect Firearms the same as me. As for
having time it’s a tough call unless in the exact situation at the exact
time. Training or not circumstances arise and unless in the moment no one
can say that I’ll do this or should have done that. I’m locked and loaded
at all times and pray to God that I never have to be in that unfortunate
situation. But if it happens I’ll be ready. God bless you brother keep up
the good work and the vids coming!

GunCrazy81 says:

I keep my Glock 23 and 12 gauge shot gun ready to go at anytime. Great
video bro and thumbs up

m1shadow says:

Great video!! An unloaded gun is nothing more then a nicely shaped piece of
metal that you can maybe use to pistol whip yourself to self defense… me,
i would rather use the tool to it’s fullest potential. I also agree on the
“sound of a racking shotgun” being useless and i myself even did a video on
that being a load of garbage. As far as kids in the house… yes, sure they
can take precautions, but as a responsible parent, they should teach their
kids never to go near or touch a firearm unattended, and if the child is
too young to understand that, then as a responsible parent, they should
make sure they always have an eye on the child because it doesn’t have to
be the gun.. it can be something as simple as the child picking up a nail
off the floor and swallowing it.

Ian Regan says:

You make a lot of good points. Criminals will be ready to commit a crime
whereas I (As a CCW carrier) am not expecting shit to go down every seconds
of every day. People think that it’s easy to just draw, rack and point. In
the heat of the moment, with adrenaline running, its easy to forget. Some
say that with proper training, its easy. I personally don’t think you are
“trained”. You can always use more training that what you have.

As it comes to home defense, I will always have one in the chamber. I don’t
want to compromise my position in the house. I have a trigger lock for my
pistol. When I am at work and not carrying it is locked and in my closet
where my kids cant reach. When I am at home it is still in my closet, but
unlocked. When I am just out and about, of course it is concealed.

These are just my opinions and choices of course and shouldn’t be taken as
advice. Very informative video. Keep em comin!

theoldmanvn66 says:

seen a bad guy piss his pants one time at the sound on a shot gun being
racked. Just saying. BUT the main thing is to carry !!

Jim Assalone says:

I agree, most jams happen on racking under pressure. Your hand will sweat
easy and Slide could slip out of your grip causing round to not completely
rack. Your kids should never be able to contact your firearms so keeping
one in chamber should not matter. When not wearing my pistol around house I
will carry it with me room to room in Kydex holster as my safety.

jrcann jay says:

No point in having a gun if it’s not loaded

John C says:

Here are also a few reasons to keep your firearm loaded. You might be a
heavy sleeper and you ,at or may not hear someone in your house until they
are right on top of you so to speak. You may only have a split second to
react. A person may only have one arm and can’t easily rack the slide in
time. Good video bro.

Captian Carry says:

Agree. When I took my CCW class along with my wife. They asked for a show
of hands who believed a person should carry unloaded. My wife raised her
hand. About half of the class did. The instructor responded by saying if
you are carrying a pistol for self defense. You Always have one in the
chamber. And average person can cover 25′ in three seconds or less or
something like that. So you do not have time really to draw, rack, proper
grip, aim and fire in most cases. So we both Cary cocked and locked (well I
do, she has a striker fire) at all times.
