I whole heartedly agree with everything the shop owner did. I'm just wondering about the legal ramifications. Public shop. Shop owner isn't law enforcement. Can he really direct/command someone? What if the gut was is Minnesota. Walked into a grocery store with his hands in his pockets because it was cold outside. But not before bending over to tie his shoes. See what I'm getting at? Again I'm 100% on board with what the guy did. Maybe in Connecticut they have laws that would back the shop owner up. I'm just leaving this comment to ensure everyone knows that each state has different laws about this kind of self defensive action. Some states would suggest for instance that the young man never produced a lethal weapon, and therefore would not have met the requirements of pulling a firearm. States that have "duty to retreat" laws. Again, I praise the owner for being alert. I might have done the same thing. Just be careful legally.
Maybe someone can help me understand Castle Doctrine better. When we say "in your place of business," do we mean you are the owner, or could you just be at work?
Personally I would have performed a Tyler Durden on that kid, instead of calling the cops….you know ?! (make him kneel down,put the gun behind his head get his phone check out his name on facebook then proceed to tell him to go back to school or you'll be coming back in 6 months to finish the deed)…mwwahahahaha.
Sad to think that there may be future innocent victims looking down from above and wishing Ozzy had pulled the trigger, like the sniper that counts each trigger pull as an unknown number of innocents saved. I hope the kid does now choose a different path.
