JustTheMessenger4u says:

I saw a video online of a 9mm FMJ round going through 4 2×4 studs. Granted
that was not a self defense round (HP) but still significant as far as
penetration is concerned.

Davidg368 says:

check out massad ayoob shoot to live video its on youtube he talks about
three deaths of over penetration within one year but it was filmed in 1990
he didnt go in to detail of caliber there was one case a thin female
with a knife was shot if I remember correctly by a 357sig the bullet went
through by fell on the ground behind her it was in one of his books but I
agree with you if somebody accidentally hit a bystander in a fight its
because they missed

redneckmini14 says:

pretty sure a lot of calibers smaller than 357 can go all the way thru a
human body.

Darth Glock says:

Your intro is kinda weak after that Selena Gomez music video commercial we
had to watch. Lol.

Tombs Clawtooth says:

Just avoid a heavy hardcast flat nose, and you’ll never have to worry about
over penetration, lol…

Bobby H says:

I like having this conversation with people who carry 380 JHP, which is
useless in my opinion.

jerdhambone says:

My woman tells me I have a problem with “under penetration” whatever the
hell that means.

Federal Premium HST, all you need

darksidefloyd1 says:

So you would you worry about over penetration from your M1A? 😉 Yes, I’m
fishing for a spoiler. Great video as always.

Deontay Ginger says:

Seeing the words “Over Penetration” on a YM video made me kind of worried
to click on it a little.

Tom Nelson says:

Thanks for the quick response, especially via this video you made. Stay
safe, keep taking good care of your boys & God bless. Im always looking for
new videos from you. Also keep rewatching some old ones. One of my
favorites is “Revolvers, boring, antiquated & stupid”. I think I got the
title right.

CavalryCaptain Mike says:

you’re more likely to have to shoot through something (door, wall, car
door) than you are to shoot at someone who has an innocent person right
behind them. if there is an innocent person right behind your opponent
(mass shooting for example) then you are more likely to miss (police miss 4
of 5 shots) and hit the person behind your opponent, than to shoot THROUGH
them and into the innocent person

Dave H says:

If you’re that concerned about over-penetration use hollow point or other
expanding bullets. They give up more energy in the target, so even if they
do make it out the other side 1) they’re moving slower than a FMJ bullet in
the same caliber, and 2) they have a larger surface area, so if they do hit
someone the energy is spread out and the bullet is less likely to
penetrate.

George Washington says:

I like 9mm, so it is easy for me to find ammo that will not over penetrate.
This video actually has a video in the related videos that has the ideal
rounds to prevent over penetration. Hornady Critical Defense 9mm
consistently achieved the perfect amount of penetration in testing.
Although over penetrationis not a huge concern of mine, I’d rather have
ammo that doesn’t over penetrate because it is no less convenient than
having ammo that dose. It also means I am selecting a hollow point that
will not fail to expand.

AslanAtreyu says:

Over penetration….. that’s what she said!

SweetWillyJonez says:

I think my wife worries about it more than I do… Lol

James P. says:

How do you not chuckle at, “Over Penetration”?

Nebulax123 says:

I seem to remember that the over penetration stuff came from some tests
using surplus 9MM that was very hot and meant for sub machine-guns. It
would beat up a regular pistol in short order and was not recommend for
them. It was fmj and not what you would want for self-defense anyway. I am
sorry but it has been too many years and I can’t recall the exact article
as I am even older than YM. I want to say it was in Guns and Ammo.

ediot6969 says:

10mm is not a myth and neither is it’s over penetration. Don’t believe me
look up Keith warren “highroad” 55 yard shot at a whitetail goes straight
through the deer and hits the dirt behind it.

Suprentus says:

I thought over penetration partly had to do with property damage, but even
more so with not having the round transfer all its energy into the target.
With property damage, I thought the idea was if you have to shoot an
intruder in your home, that it doesn’t end up either wrecking your stuff
too, or punching through the drywall and causing the neighbors trouble. Or
perhaps you don’t want to hit someone’s car or shoot out someone’s window,
only to get sued after you file a police report.

With transferring energy, it’s why a 5.56 can potentially be more deadly
than a 7.62×39 that just punches through with more power, for example.
With over penetration, you lose stopping power. I mean, I’m sure the risk
of hitting someone exists, but that seems like way too specific of a
scenario to realistically expect.

But, I’m not an expert on this stuff, so correct me if I’m wrong.

John Doe says:

If I unfortunately ever find myself in a situation where I have to fire my
gun and by some strange miracle get a good shot to where the round goes
through the other person’s body and then hits someone behind them I can
tell you right now I’m going to shit my pants right there and then
immediately get my name change to some cool operator type name…..like
bob.

Gary Jordan says:

Great video!

594holk says:

great video with some great points. thank you.

Michael Mantion says:

I agree, guy need to take their time and aim. Few people over penetrate
but lots of guys fire too soon.

Sirwilliam1229 says:

You better make me laugh, or I’m going to unsubscribe (Just joking)!

soulis1000 says:

PENETRATION ROX!

Ben Galvin says:

Plus, it’s usually just men that worry about over penetration

Josh Bruner says:

We’re missing the bigger picture of this whole video… how were you able
to say penetration that many times and keep a straight face?

Ben951456 says:

Love the videos man, keep the logical pro 2nd stuff coming.

mkygod says:

Am I correct to assume that you’re talking about JHP rounds exclusively
since you’re talking about self-defense?

PocketDrummer says:

Worrying about over-penetration is ignoring the gun safety rule “Know your
target and what is behind it”.

If there are innocent people behind your target, you probably shouldn’t
shoot. If you must, you better be a damn good shot.

taktman says:

I agree and would add that modern ammo, with the exception of some ball or
heavy cast, is designed to fragment. High quality self defense type ammo
reduces the chance of a projectile passing through a body significantly.

Samuel Self says:

I am not an expert … but I want my rounds to transfer as much energy from
the bullet to the person I intend to hit as possible. Ideally my .40 round
hits center mass, mushrooms nicely, and stays in the bad guy. When it
comes to handguns I think the ammo you use has more to do with this than
the caliber. Proper amount of powder in the round and maximized bullet
expansion.

Jeff Lockwood says:

I am well beyond middle age. Ergo, I have no concerns about over
penetration, or my ammunition either.

Hector Defendi says:
itsallahoax says:

Nice hat!

jamie murmann says:
