this video would've been funnier if you turned your mic off and just did the whole thing with no sound.

Guns4Cats says:

So, that means 9mm is better than .357 magnum because it is subsonic. Discuss

GLOCK'EM DOWN says:

Yes Sir, you are right I was in high stress situation firing a Glock 23 with HST 175 Hollow points total of 3 Rounds. Did not really hear the shots and had tunnel vision. Of course all that came to me few days later when I was planning things out in my head. My neighbors heard nothing. I thought people would at least turn on a porch light or something Nothing.

Christopher says:

The number of times I've shot pistols and even rifles without hearing protection is pretty high. I'm sure I've got some damage but I have pretty good hearing overall. People seem to think I have hearing trouble when I ask them to repeat themselves but often it's for me to confirm that they said something particular as in my line of work at the moment specifics and minor details matter.

I shoot a lot of pistol caliber carbines, and frankly I feel even in magnum loads like .44 while they are loud, they are still quieter than their handgun counterparts. Type of powder and such matters as well, some give a more distinct noise level over others, but in general it's always a good idea to use hearing protection when and where you can. In self defense or home defense, you may not have that luxury and you should worry about it later.

Christopher Brown says:

This is why I like .380 ACP, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP more than 9mm Luger. It's hard to find a good self-defense 9mm round that will be subsonic in a typical full-sized carry gun length barrel like 4" or greater. If it's a small carry gun, your subsonic 9mm options are a little better.

Kevin Wilken says:

You do realize that, because of this video, there are people who are going to start wearing hearing protection all the time while carrying.

River Styx Armory says:

the volume of a caliber should be to last thing to consider. even deaf is better than dead. yes, 9×19 is 'better' on your ears than .357, BUT the .357 can load up a 158 grain jacketed bullet with ease, and is pretty much the minimum of "can easily be a 1 shot man stopper" cartridges on my list.

Gabe Musashi says:

bats have this thing that switches off their ear drums when they use echolocation, why can't we do that :I

BryGuy418 says:

Took me a minute before I realized what (or should I say "who") the heck the shirt was getting at, but once I did, it was brilliant. That's hilarious. Also, interesting video. Keep up the great work.

Chase Guisinger says:

Yankee ".357 rules all" Marshal

Stormtrooper TK-0777 says:

Supposedly vitamin e can help after firing with no hearing protection. Couldn't hurt to take, even if does nothing.

Reefer Nanoman says:

I worry about this (having to shoot an intruder inside my well sealed modern home). How about getting a silencer for my home defense gun? That would be a great counter to going deaf while defending your family during a home invasion at night no?

Warren Harrison says:

i heard nothing he said i was looking at his shirt.

ShootinArn says:

Tennessee legalized suppressors this month, The Tennessee Hearing Protection Act. From what I understand Tennessee law enforcement will not enforce federal laws on silencers now.

Taurus/Hipoint Enthusiast says:

Bitch man up I got you on this one. Every Gun I carry for self defense has a 5 round Minimum clause I must put 5 rounds through it with out hearing protection. .357 Included nothing you can run through that wheel gun or and auto of the same caliber can or will ever compare to a NAA .22 magnum with no hearing protection Yes I completed the 5 round clause. I was damned near crippled from the Pain ruptured my ear drum OUTSIDE. The .357 just does not stack up. And yes .357 mag through a 4 inch barrel is loud . but will never have the voice of the .22 magnum out the NAA Revolver with a 1 inch barrel. come get some.

Wolfcat says:

How do you know it's better than being dead….have you ever been dead? …LOL..

guineapigpink 7 says:

I'm either going to use 5.7 or 22lr . Littler bullets less chance of raping my ears

Kyle Groetsch says:

Being dead is certainly a concern for the living. I can't say the same for violent criminals as often they take the room temperature challenge.

Frederick Nolan says:

Ear buds that block hi-frequency sounds like the boom of your defensive tool aka hand gun.

H Smith says:

Disorientated.

454pakr says:

You should have a suppressor and a laser/light on your bedside gun.

The Man says:

great video. my nightstand gun is a 8.5" 300 blackout with silencerco omega, loaded up with Lehigh max expansion subsonics, and topped off with a stream light hl.

Kaylor Golden says:

The teevo…. trust me we do go deaf, but it's momentarily. Adrenaline and shit I guess

Peter Choi says:

Nice muzzle discipline.

The Stranger says:

Just carry a sword.

Reverend Greasehound says:

I was in a 4th of July parade in Cody, Wyoming with my dad and his Model A Ford Club. We used to go every year, but this particular year, we were near these mountain men riding horses carrying muzzle loaders. They fired (most likely just the cap and powder or blanks) in the air right behind us. I lost my hearing in my right ear for about a week. I was about 10 feet away from them inside of a 1932 Model A Ford with the windows up (it started to rain so me and my pa were lucky) and only three shot were fired. It was the first one I heard, but not the two. I think my hearing is okay to this day since that was about ten years ago when I was eight-years-old, last time it was checked I could hear all of the little teeny beeps and boops at the doctor's office. I had an incident at a range similar to your's but have not had any bad effects. Maybe I'm lucky but considering I plan on carrying a .357, I am definitely going to take it into account that I might not be lucky again.
