Train awareness, it is a muscle that will save you.

Spodo bbb says:

I really like this advice
It's so true that we go through a mental process of preperation and now you have to adapt those motor skills without that
It makes me think I got to really be less comfortable I guess

GamezClipz says:

Who is icy Mike? What’s his credentials doesn’t look like a fighter to me

Capital Edge Fencing Club says:

For fencers getting in a boxing/kickboxing gym is great. Being hit hard will reinstill the need for smart tempo and tactics. Our protective masks can lead to stupid fencing.

Ramblo Maniacs says:

The biggest benefit to the defender is having the element of surprise. Someone who's hyped up and attacking has a predator mentality and often don't count on you fighting back. I think a lot of self defense techniques actually only work because of the element of surprise.
Obviously the attacker could use the element of surprise too.
The other advantage is that you don't have to chase the other guy around a ring/cage/mats. As the attacker, they come to you. That tricky guy in the gym who runs away and counters isn't a good example of an attacker on the street.

Marcos Álvarez says:

I always disagree with Mike in this one. Self defense goes from knowing the local emergency numbers, to taxi spots, to first aid, to body language, to negotiation. Fighting is just the last part of self defense.

Christian Nordström says:

I was recently in a fight at a bar, i finished the fight fast with a mean right hook. And i accidentally broke the other guys jaw and now might be going to prison… Now i'm a fraid of punching someone again, even i a self defense situation.

I train boxing, but im thinking about switching to thai boxing so i can learn how to kick instead. What is you guys toughts about this. Should i punch in a differant way or maybe just a jabb in the future or learn how to kick to nullify the situation?

XD XD says:

If you're trap on a corner and can't run while ur opponent has a knife.. a front/push kick to the groin is a must imo. But the best thing u can do is avoid chaotic places like going to a bar.. because you don't know if someone suddenly pulled out a knife or a gun while confronting you.. worst case scenario is ur already drunk.

casillasscorer says:

John Wayne Parr just recently posted a picture on his Instagram and told a story of him in a street fight in Thailand and how he was left with a large injury

Sal Ve says:

self defense for kickboxers, in America. A CCW. I know a lot of black belts, high level kickboxers, fighters etc, who have people pick fights with them because people think they're always up to fight, or have something to prove. If you're a skill kickboxer/etc you can easily become skilled in using a pistol for self defense.

danny herbert says:

Yeah we always got taught in krav maga that if you're not cheating you're not trying hard enough to win, sounds quite funny but in a self defence scenario it's exactly the right mindset to have

Shan Rafnezden says:

I love both of you guys videos. In streetfighting, I've always had a lot of success with the power push with both fists to the chest, the grab and kick to the groin, the grabbing of jacket sleeves and smashing the opponent into walls. In bar fights grabbing and choking and giving pain to the groin area. I'm fast and small -5,7 ft & 155 lb-l I live in a land of giants, the Netherlands, and I have never had to fight smaller guys. Always bigger dudes. I never pick a fight. I think it's very important to minimalize the harm done to any other person, especially if they are some stupid big mouth whos not dangerous. If I have to fight for my life I'll use lethal force.

Soro Ismael says:

I believe sometime you gona use your jab, because your attacker took some kind of gard after he pushed you. Better no hurry to punch you might get contered
