No, I would not engage the couple. Raging emotions, violent tendencies and a SIZABLE concealed weapon makes me think of moving myself to a safer location and be a good witness. I think we've been over this. Few people can read minds and in a situation with a, "Couple" chances are if you are focused on the aggressor the other half could be readying to plunge that knife in your back or maybe not…?…I don't know, do you?
I thought that if I was caught on tape "carrying a concealed weapon" in the NYC "area" that I would have a felony arrest on my record at the very least!
Then again there are some fundamental differences between me and him that ensure that I won't have the get out of jail free privilege.
I would have stopped him from attacking her. And the only time he would get close to me is when he was laying face down on the floor with his hands out and visible.
People don't get involved cause they know the cops in NY will charge you as a criminal for trying to do the right thing. They'll see everyone involved as a criminal.
As a civilian, if it is an environment where I am disarmed (no firearm or spray) I would say I would not get involved. However, as a retired police officer and Army Veteran, I would probably be all over this guy.
