Revolver VS Auto For Self Defense? (Multiple Opponents)

Doing a little training for self defense/home defense/multiple attacker from 7 yards with a revolver and with a semi automatic pistol. I went with full power rounds and used .357 Magnum Remington HTP 158 gr SJHP ammunition for the revolver (4″ bbl S&W 686) and .45 ACP Remington HTP 230 gr JHP ammunition for the auto (Glock 41 5.3″ bbl). Always appreciative of any channel help 🙂 https://www.paypal.me/gunsamrevolver https://www.patreon.com/user?u=5828221

I must say looks to me you're a little faster with that 45 opposed to those Full House 357. Can't wait to see a video on 45 Auto versus 38 Special +p. Something tells me you will be faster with the 38 than the 45. Thanks again Sam for the totally awesome video

Good example Sam, thank you.

That S&W 686 is a beautiful gun! Want one.

Lance Kelly says:

Very well done. I am not comfortable with a light on my carry gun because I don't want to point my gun at someone to identify them. But I do have a light on my M&P 2.0 9mm that I keep by my bed. I don't mind pointing my gun at a Uninvited Guest to identify them inside my house. I do carry a hand held light as part of my edc. Thanks for the video, looks like something I need to practice also.

Great video and drill. Well done

Two Best of the Best Logical Options .357 & 45 for FUN Defense and Hunting !

Good video, as usual.. if you're good with a revolver; ..shooting a semi auto is a breeze. An idea,. A shot timer would be a good addition to the test..

You are a good shooter 👍👍👍

Well done sir! Those .357 Remington HTP's are a ton of fun and insanely powerful. I just got my case order of these in from FedEx. I'd gladly take the revolver in this situation. We plan to do a drill similar to this with my wife's M&P 340 next trip to the range. I enjoy your lack of bias in your videos, some people get too caught up in which is better before they ever spend time with either of them. To those reading who never shoot revolvers, consider giving one a try. I know everyone touts about capacity, but let's be real. Most people will not train enough to handle a situation with multiple attackers effectively. Paper doesn't move. Sometimes luck wins, and that goes for the good guys or the bad guys. Bottom line, 5 rounds on you beats 50 at home. If you'll carry it, that's the first step. Next, be sure you dry fire, dry fire, dry fire! Be sure your gun is not loaded and ammo is put away for your time training. Now, practice a draw from concealment and pick a couple random targets, or have your partner call threat and identify what in the house is the threat. Get used to bringing that front sight picture to your dominant eye while affirming your grip on the firearm. Train that dominant eye to see the front sight and through to the target. Practice pivoting your body with the firearm instead of losing the sight picture. The nice thing about revolvers is your dry fire practice is exactly like live fire only without the recoil. You'll be surprised how much that helps with your follow up shots while you're at the range.

Drew says:

Rapid fire is even easier with a longer slide on the .45. I say go with the largest frame and slide you can with the .45. And with a light on the rail it helps drop the muzzle even more helping with follow up shots.

Toxic Grunt says:

Great video once again.

I think that I'd rather be shot with a .45 as opposed to a .357…
Call me crazy…

Good show Sam. Striker fired semi vs revolvers against multiple attackers. You made a respectable showing with both platforms, thanks.

Ralph Dials says:

You are very right, it takes practice and skill to be effective with a .357 using only one hand. Very well done.

Good shooting!

Fudmottin says:

Nice shooting. Although I couldn't help imagining a little dig as I do modify my guns and I built my AR up from a stripped lower (every part wisely chosen ;). I also have a weapon light on the AR as well as a weapon light on my Beretta (it came with a rail as part of the frame). All this is fine for defending the castle. Conceal carrying a firearm with a weapon light is somewhat of a holster challenge. I'm not convinced that a light is needed for that though. But one handed shooting would occur in a grappling situation. Obviously most people don't have arms long enough for that to work at seven yards.

Jim Meli says:

Another good one. That's a nice drill to practice. Auto's are always easier to get on target for a quick follow up. The slide returning to battery helps lower the muzzle. I'm not a proponent of most gun mods as they can be harder to wield and employ quickly. Mounted lights and lasers can fail and create dependance. I have a pretty open floor plan in my home and have nightlights everywhere. Many of my guns have night sights on them as well. However, I have enough light to identify and hit anything in my home without a flashlight. I do have one handy, but it's nice to be unencumbered and have 2 hands on the gun.

John Doe says:

Not one thing wrong with all that Sam!

Freya Norse says:

Good video sweetheart. Happy aniversary. Looks like theyre both pretty acurate. Little bit harder to get that one handed head shot w the revolver. But still pretty close. U know revolvers work better for me. But im not sure i trust myself shooting one handed w anything. Think i need more practice. Jus gatta do that w the wrist brace. Lol

timmybmn says:

Really good shooting. I could be wrong, but if you at least start putting rounds on an attacker or an active shooter and force them to take cover it's a win. Most of those dudes don't want a two way range. Time is a huge factor and you can buy a lot of it.

GYPSY KING FURY says:

Not bad at all!!

Rich Weatherly says:

Thanks Sam. With the rapid fire you gave us a good reality check.

Freedom First says:

If you practice and and can get good shot placement, with a .357 Magnum in double action, it is easier with a semi-auto in my experience.
