Reality of Self Defense Shooting

In this Geauga Firearms Academy video we look at the reality of a self defense situation. Although marksmanship is critical, there is a very different skill set and training practices that must be understood and effectively learned if one is able to successfully survive a real self defense situation. I demonstrate the basic concepts needed to retain your weapon and create space. These are demonstrations of concepts and best practices, and in no way replace actual hands on training with a competent instructor. As always seek professional training.

Off topic, but, is there any specific bullet proof vest or vest carrier that you would recommend or have experience with? I'm use to wearing a full body harness and heavy tool pouch all day so weight is not much of an issue.

Are those orange ear plugs any good?

Lionquest Fitness says:

Good technique. Gliding the leg back lowers the center of gravity and gives you a balanced platform as opposed to the speed rock technique they used to teach police officers that leaves you off balance.

Pedro Hernandez says:

I see. obviously this video isn't for Californians.. I like your work though..THUMBS UP.

Pedro Hernandez says:

wait. so if a person throws a punch at you, it's takin as a life threat? so kill them?.. Isn't that murder?

Tyler says:

Very good video. One thing I'd like to add is ensure your defensive arm is NOT extended when shooting. If you extend your defensive hand out to deflect or push away your opponent, and draw your weapon close to your body and fire without extension aiming, you risk shooting your own limb!

Otherwise, great video as always. Please keep up the good work!

I practice almost this exact same drill all the time. That's when you'll need it the most… up close and personal. Keep up the great videos. You and Kim help a lot of people and we thank you both!

Subbed. Concealed carry classes should focus on this, but they don't even touch it. Everybody repeats the same old "sight picture and trigger squeeze" from competitive sport shooting. Most of the situations you describe in this video will be in low light, so sights won't work anyway. Great video. Thanks.

Trying to figure out why you don't have more of a following. Your no bullshit assessments and training is phenomenal. You have my thanks for your work and dedication despite not having hundreds and thousands of viewers.
