Pellet Guns For Self Defense? (Co2 and .177 Caliber Pistols Only) – Long Talk!

A long lecture / discussion on pellet guns, limited to Co2, .177 Caliber, and pistol, for self defense. Will it be possible? Is it a good choice? If we have …

respect dude. awesome

philip anderson says:

I believe “replica ” firearms are prohibited in Canada, but they sell BB
guns that look the same as the “real” I think they are allowed because
they actually fire a BB so may not be considered a “replica” firearm . I
have one that looks like a Colt Defender, it will fire 18 steel BB’s @
approx 460 fps this is enough force to dent my target steel that is about
the same thickness as a spoon…..pretty formidable if someone were to fire
this at an intruders head and eyes. Plus you don’t need to follow the “safe
storage” requirements of Canadian law. (although I do)

T&T BBQ T&T BBQ says:

Great video! Thanks for all the knowledge. I love pellet guns

Rodney Armstrong says:

What if you use a pistol with the mock silencer that increases fps to 500
or 550ish fps with raptor pellets that are said to increase fps up to 200
more and i guess that would make a pistol shoot about 700 fps maybe

Jacques says:

Great video! Keep it up!

awesomeairguns says:

I think you make too big of a deal out of reloading. If you haven’t
stopped the threat by brandishing the gun or by firing off 2 or 3 shots,
then you are pretty much screwed at that point anyway.

TheDallasdeadeye says:

9 m m, is better for self defense! lol just messing with u.

IMPORTSvsMUCLE says:

They have pellets with red tips that are for not really hunting. It people
use them and it gets shot out if a rifle and it shoots like 800-1000 fps
almost like a real gun. For sure you will kill someone perhaps someone is
trying to rob you or kill you, nice vid by the way

bucsmaster21 says:

My t4 is always over 400 Fps in the first 20 or 25 shots so I must have a
different make or something

imsuckingwind says:

what do you think of a Crosmen 1077 12 shot repeater 0.177″ (4.5mm) 625
fps,,,, i realize its not a hang gun ,but this has more fps and more shots
per clip.

RezyStyle says:

Well actually i didn’t see the full title, so i was thinking of rifles
too.. I think i could be able to do some serious damage to someone if
needed with my Umarex Smith&Wesson 686 revolver.. With the right
penetrating pellet atleast!

brian barthel says:

very cool video, thanks again Mak Jo Si !

broodjeaap57 says:

Oké I have watched it. And I have to say is you are a pro. It was very
informative and clear. You made a lot of interesting points on how to
defend yourself in case of zombie attack. It’s hard to get a cp99 but
Skenko pellets is a go.how is the tgr2 doing is it repaird? As always Mak
you are a badass :)

Qyuubi786 says:

A lot of things to think about. Being able to stop someone coming at you,
using a pellet gun, can help you escape while they are on the floor in
pain. That is one big knife lol.
My stock is dry but it needs another coat. It’s extremely grippy but it
still almost feels wet.

Jeffrey Farinha says:

what do you think about crosman c11?

RezyStyle says:

BB Gun? No way. Pellet on the other side.. Sure! With the right gun and
pellet you can drop people with no problem with say a 177.

carlos gonzalez says:

Try the Daisy powerline 008 at 480 fps pellets for 60 bucks.

broodjeaap57 says:

Wow that’s a long video Mak. I am going to watch it tonight. And comment
later on

bucsmaster21 says:

Crosman t4 velocity is 450 fps!!!!

VoidraMusic says:

I saw a Umarex Walther PPK classic special on sale, it comes with a
silencer and supposably said to have 538FPS with steel BB

carlos figueroa says:

Hi friend. the first thing is to congratulate you for this conference.
in my country is a crime to carry firearms
and crime is out of control
I want to defend myself with a gun co2 pellet as first choice
which you recommend I stick hard to self defense
before fighting melee last measure.
appreciate a response from you since you are the only person who can help
me.
Best regards from chile.

Jason Ciehoski says:

Hey love all your vids,I wanted your opinion on a pellet pistol.I’m looking
for something that can take down a raccoon..a mod would be ok ..thanks

VoidraMusic says:

just bought a Gamo PX107, 15 shot 4.5mm steel bb 409~410 FPS non blow back,
with gamo lead coated bb’s, not bad for self defense?

I saw a couple more nice models at the gun shop, they’re having a huge sale
soon, going to buy some more !

andy m. smith says:

I think your video is really good info you get to the point about pellet
guns.

Floppy Dodo says:

1.20 that is funny shit man

Winston Myer says:

nice video (watched the whole thing), and that is one big knife! lol

Tyler Jeffreys says:

Dude ur so badass and I would not want to meet u in a bb gun war lol your
so well equipped!!

Henry Edwards says:

Great vid

Ning Liu says:

best video ever! like it

VoidraMusic says:

umarex desert eagle any good? I see them for sale at 475 local currency

Rogerdogerboots says:

I love your videos and you’re very interesting. keep up the good work

Will Airs says:

would the gamo pt 85 tactical (extended barrel) be a good choice in terms
of power? It does about 450 fps with 7 grain pellets and can put out about
5 foot pounds of energy. What are your thoughts?

Magnetoid Rowdy says:

I have a beretta px4 & I used string to stop the blowback action. The gun
still works fine. Any comments about restricting the blowback on a co2 gun?

Allan Leigh Aussie Allan In Thailand says:

While I myself have a few very real pistols. All my both air-soft, and 4.5
mm air guns are modified to shoot steel; BB”s threw both sides of steel
dog food cans. Now this is more than sufficient power to very seriously
hurt, and if a face or neck shot at least temporarily immobilize an
attacker out to beyond 15 meters. While I agree somewhat with your
comparison between steel V lead BB”s and pellets or BB”s made from lead.
The deformation of lead upon striking soft tissue causes a far worse wound
channel damage. Therefore myself I load 1 steel BB to 2 X lead; granted any
and all whether CO 2 of gas charged air-soft or air pistols loose
performance due to the cold effect of the gas fairly quickly if shot in
rapid fire mode. However myself living in Thailand this effect is
dramatically minimized due to the constant high temperatures. I would be
hesitant to use any air powered weapon in a real life self defense role;
but for savage dogs etc. they work exceptionally well. I also always carry
very powerful slingshots and shoot 20 to 35 gram home made lead shot; which
with my accuracy to 50 meters to always hit a soda can, will instantly kill
of maim anything on legs silently. Given I stretch the relaxed powerful
tapered bands to 550 to 600% of relaxed length. Consequently speaking for
myself, my non real pistols could with very accurate shot placement in an
emergency, allow me time to draw my slingshot for 1 shot, end of any
confrontation….. But any air pistol against anyone armed with a real
firearm. Is about as bad a bringing a tooth pick to a gun fight, okay….
Cheers Allan

codex codex says:

nice vid Dude 😀
I played Softair many times and also 6mm plastic BBs can stop a bad guy
i took hits all over my body and my face and it causes heavy pain and i was
gone down to the ground
missing orientation.
Pelets are more accurate and a well placed shot can stop or kill.

p.S Fireing a gun or fight is the really last choice !

oling2812 says:

Interesting video but shockingly inaccurate! First off, the fact that
you’re even considering COST in a life and death situation is just
ridiculous! Who cares if the gun breaks in the heat of the moment?!
Furthermore, a 1-2fpe energy airgun will NOT kill someone. 4fpe is
considered to be the absolute MINIMUM energy required to dispatch a rabbit
with a perfectly placed headshot at point blank range… and a human skull
is many times stronger than a rabbit’s skull. As such, penetration is
useless as it is really low with such a low powered airgun, regardless of
the ammo used- certainly not enough to come close to killing a human being.
What I’m getting at is that stopping power (that is the hydrostatic shock
of the impact) is most important since this is most likely able to buy you
some time in the heat of the moment but is highly unlikely to do anymore
than temporarily disable your attacker. Stopping power is maximised with
heavy pellets in co2 guns. Look at 10 grain or upward .177 cal. pellets and
you should see a 15-20% energy increase. Also use pellets which penetrate
the least (aka not the pointed lead-free pellets that you recommend!!)

Have you ever been hunting? I’ve seen squirrels/pigeons/ other small game
have a .177 pellet pass right through the middle of their body (from a 12
fpe rifle, NOT a 1-2fpe pistol) and they just run/fly away (it does not
stop them). Bear in mind that the energy is several times greater than what
you’re suggesting and the quarry is many many times smaller than what
you’re suggesting and you’ll realise that what you’re suggesting is not
realistic.

It is also stupid to even suggest a reload in one of these situations. If
someone has a knife they will be at your throat in 1-2 seconds, not the 15
odd seconds that it took you in your previous video on bb guns to slowly
empty a magazine and then perform a reload.

Furthermore, none of the guns you suggest have been tuned for power and are
as they come stock which is horrendously underpowered.

I’m not even going to get onto the lead poisoning argument- do you expect
your attacker to stand there patiently for 3-4 days (that’s if the
poisoning is acute) and wait to die slowly…?!

Ultimately, the way I see it is this. There IS a chance that an airgun
could be used in self-defense but your video makes out that it is quite a
reliable choice. I am NOT saying use something else because I realise that
that is not the point of the video but what you are suggesting is so
unbelievably unreliable that you should have concluded very differently.

Benedict Benito says:

I do not have a pellet pistol, but I do have a tiny firearm pistol in .22LR
that I deploy the same way. 40 grains of lead going maybe 600-700 fps from
a 1 inch barrel is not much better than a pellet so the same strategies as
described in this video apply.

vriljaeger18 says:

Hi, I like your videos. The best pellet for self-defense is the “Skenco
Hyper Velocity Field Pellet .177”. No other pellet penetrates deeper. Very
dangerous. But beware, there are diffrent versions of the pellet. The end
of the plastic must be smooth. For Umarex models, the pellet must be cut to
6,9-7,0mm. Simply remove the plastic. Then the metal projectile saw off
about 3mm. And then the metal bullet stuck back in the plastic. it is
necessary to work clean. It is not a nice job, but you do it so hopefully
only once.
