Pros and cons of PDWs of various sizes. Which one is right for you?

M1 carbine.

I'd argue the PDW concept goes back further than the M1, with the 1913 Artillery Luger being the first "modern" PDW. Before that, you had Civil War era troops getting revolving rifles, and stagecoach drivers with coach guns. Hell, you could argue that arming swords, light maces, and messers were mainly PDWs, with spears, polearms, and bows constituting a soldiers primary armament.

If I have a full 50 yards between me and some fool with a gun, I am going to take off like a NFL running back, I don't like the idea of getting into a gun fight. What am I missing here??

Seems like, the best choice is what's needed for your situation. There is no wrong or right, just trying to pick between cost, need, and situation risk. The ultimate triangle of situation do you want fast; accurate, or cheap….. pick two.

I see no point whatever in a pistol caliber PDW with a 5-inch barrel. In my opinion that doesn't get you anything more than what you can have in a much more concealable carry weapon…
– More range? No. You don't get any more range out of a 5-inch PDW than you do with a 4 or 5-inch carry weapon.
– More power? No, not with a pistol caliber PDW with a 5-inch barrel.
– More accuracy? No, not with the advent of pistol red dots.
– More capacity? No. You can carry a higher capacity magazine in addition to the one already in your carry weapon. (And you should!)
So, what do you get with a pistol caliber PDW? Just a "fear factor" that you can't count on to make a difference and a $1000 to $1500 hole in your checkbook.
If you're considering a "large format" firearm that isn't a shotgun, the only thing that makes sense to me if you're going to carry it or use it as a truck gun is a rifle caliber PDW with a barrel at least several inches longer than your carry gun. In that event, you get more range, more power, more accuracy with iron sights or a magnified optic (no different with a red dot) and more capacity. My advice: Give serious consideration to a 7 to 9-inch barrel 5.56mm or 5.7mm PDW.

The Ruger PC backpacker (state-compliant) is a great choice if you travel across the country. Legal in "ban states", while also effective and good looking👍🏼

11:27 I really like my Mav 88. Is that Shockwave a 14 inch barrel? Looks like it. The Mav88 is 18.5 and mine has a top folding stock. So its only a few inches longer. Same mag tube capacity.

I saw the same kind of grip online that can fit on the 88. It'd be pretty cool lol. But the reason i like the top folding stock is that you can shoot in either config.

Currently working on the Form 1 to get a proper stock on my Shockwave

A PDW is a pistol for ppl who are not good at shooting a pistol. Hardly any (or no with shorties) ballistic gain but lower maouverability and no actual concealability. The backpack gun idea is a joke.
