I totally disagree with John on this one.. Very tough situation to be in but this officer really lacks the ability to SHOW empathy and care for someone who is experiencing a suicidal mental crisis. Instead of repeating the same "tell me what happened today" demand and "can you tell me your age at least?" question, why not make comments & ask questions that shows her that she's not alone, people care, she can get all the help she needs, offer words of encouragement, etc.. really bad time to have a 'strictly business' attitude honestly. With all that being said, it's much easier to say that from my couch. I don't believe the officer is responsible for the outcome in any capacity. I just think there's other strategies that could've worked more effectively in this situation.

Armand B. says:

as parent i wouldn't ever call police to save my kid in this situation, specially in US where training takes from 10-36 weeks.

Bryan B says:

What makes it an "unprecedented time?"

MA PE says:

Why Not going by the Back? Shit Man! Time his everything, did you have some? He want too die, did not have too, ha well!

Vince C. says:

I'm sorry but this was handled like sh*t and could have gone 100 different ways that would have been better than this. The only person she was a danger to was herself until the officers ESCALATED the situation with a suicidal teenager who was having serious mental and emotional health issues. This is a tragic lack of critical situation training on the part of these officers. There was no immediate threat until they advanced towards her. In this situation, there is NO REASON to not wait the situation out or have someone who is trained in these kind of matters come to the scene to negotiate/calm her down. She WOULD NOT have stabbed these officers. They of course cannot take that risk, but if they would have kept their distance in the first place and tried to have some compassion and empathy instead of treating her like she was holding someone else hostage, it likely would have ended in her giving up the knife. Her mental state told her to make a decision when she knew they were closing in on her. She wanted to die. ANYONE READING THIS, LISTEN UP! NO MATTER WHAT YOU THINK, IF YOU CALL THE POLICE DURING A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS OF A FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND, MAKE SURE IT'S SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT YOU ARE PREPARED TO SEE THEM SHOT DEAD. It's a VERY LIKELY OUTCOME if they are aggressive, having a psychotic break, disassociated, manic, or suicidal. This was uncalled for and inappropriate. The lack of patience and compassion is what caused the outcome.😔😠

Im curious if this had been a middle aged male without a weapon, same scenario. Not in any way taking away the tragedy from this, I recall another episode where john has gotten praise for calling a situation just like this one, taser and all, a "bad shoot". I just dont understand the inconsistency is all.

Phil B says:

That was a girl?!

Rodger says:

Was that a shotgun blast? That was close distance, I’m surprised she lived

Tech45 2012 says:

The closest cop to the left looked like they had a bean bag shot gun? If it was that, why did they not use it? Or like you guys say bear mace. Need to have more tools in your tool boxes my friends. This is a horrible situation. And It’s 2022, and Your telling me there is no other options? BS

Jeff T says:

So was that less then lethal or a 12g? It didn’t sound like a normal report in the video but I understand it’s badge camera audio. Where was she hit? I haven’t seen too many people survive buck shot at that close range before.
