For all commenting that the officers should have shot him in the leg:
This thinking showcases a real lack of understanding of firearms use.
First, shooting someone in the leg is incredibly difficult. The leg is a small target, and moving quickly. Hitting it at any distance, under the stress of a deadly threat, is beyond difficult.
Second, shooting someone in the leg is not often effective at stopping the threat. If the bullet hits only muscle, it can be very ineffective at creating an incapacitation.
Third, shooting someone in the leg is still deadly force and, because the leg contains the femoral artery, can cause death by bleeding in 30 seconds or less. So it is by no means less lethal.
Therefore, this entire line of reasoning shows lack of understanding of firearms use.
Can i just ask why do cops always react not respond but REACT with lethal force if its literally a dude with a screwdriver who looks to be maybe 45-55 yrs old and i bet couldnt take down my 13 yr old cousin? Why cant someone just sneak up behind him and take him down and put him in handcuffs and send him off his way. Instead have to get their hands dirty and justify killing someone.
Pepper spray could have helped here. He is homeless and probably of meds. Shooting will not be my first thing to do here but i understand why they didi it
I know that it's easier and safer to just shoot him.. But he's clearly not all there and hed be one easy man to trip up.. Look at how he's even holding that screwdriver!! He's just paranoid & scared.
Wow, those are some sick cops. Not even able to defend themselves from a homeless person with a screwdriver. My grandmother could do better than you idiots. Snuggle up with your guns tonight, aholes.
I was at my service station the other day. There was someone with a screwdriver too. Glad I made it out alive, even without 10 armed and trigger happy cops.
Justified. Obvious suicide by cop. Two Non-lethal attempts were made. Cops did everything correct. Excellent work. Compare this to the police murder conviction and you'll see why he was convicted
I think its ridiculous that the only non lethal tool the cops have works only 50% of the time and then they say they exhausted all options and had to use lethal force. A baton is much longer than a screw driver and only one police officer armed with a baton could have stopped this guy. The police are not here to protect and serve. That changed a long time ago. They are here to collect, and bully and protect themselves with any force necessary. What a great legal system America has. FUCK EVERY COP INVOLVED WITH KILLING THIS GUY OR ANY OTHER AMERICAN INNOCENT. KARMA WILL GET YOU.
Sucks the taser didn't work. It happens. Those last 2 shots on him while he was already face down in the grass were a bit overkill. But they gave the guy plenty of chances to drop it and he chose to charge the officers. Sad outcome and definitely looks like suicide by cop. They'd definitely didn't want to shoot him but after the taser didn't work and he charged them, he didn't give the officers much of a choice.
Come on. A dozen cops can't disarm an old man, with a screwdriver, who just ran and is out of breath. Holding a screwdriver? American cops need better training.
I believe in the standards for police in America, this shooting was justified. However, the problem I have is the policied, procedures and practices we have in America. British cops don't have guns. The outcome would have been different. The man would have been aprehended and no one would have been killed. Knowing he has a screw driver and the cops approaching him, the guy not listening does not justify that the cops were using self defence and was afraid for their life. Tazer didn't work, I get that but there is barricads to be used. Not anymore. It's sad
Is it legal? yes. But those officers do not have special skills to fight between 5 to a single person with a screwdriver? There really was a real danger to their lives? It can be but nobody considers that it can only be a person with a bad medical or emotional day, does not consider that none was in danger with having retreated someone else takes it from behind and ready, not for everything you need a weapon and less 5 armed men against one with a screwdriver.

Just another Successful Suicide by Cop
The first shot either hit the guy in the shoulder or the head because he was cold the first shot.

Yeah let's just cuff a now unarmed dead body. fucking stupid

Some CQC would be great for this situation

Whats the point of cuffing him tho? He got by like 4 bullets what did they think he would do .
All right. I'll be that guy
When there's something weird
In your neighborhood
Who ya gonna call?
They lit buddy up 😂
It shows some times stun guns don't work
And as the great dandy Don Meredith used to say on Monday night football. Turn out the lights, the party's over.!!!!!!

This what happened when you don't listen 👂🎧

A simple kick would've solved this in a better way… but no: an old drunk lady with a screwdriver is too dangerous for cops in the US.
