Can you please stop saying "cover your asp" it's so fucking cringey and kills it for me

John Que Phone says:

Why is it every other first world country can deal with suicidal people with knives without shooting? Serious question, do you find killing/shooting mentally ill people in the street appropriate behavior for a first world nation? If you have a suicidal family member you want dead, then call the police.

retrozetti says:

When LEO arrive to a suicidal individual, you said suicidal individuals rarely attack… but when a "cop" arrives to a scene of a suicidal person, doesn't "suicide by cop" become a real consideration. After all then, they don't have to administer the suicide upon themselves, but instead charge at an armed cop as an "quicker and even easier way out because their death will come from another?" I'm just thinking this had "suicide by cop" written all over it, IMHO.

Harry Pouncey says:

From the description of this vid I thought this was a no-way-out style confrontation. Glad to see the police went home that night.

Alberich LP says:

2 Things.
#1 Tank you for mentioning that suicidal people don't intent to harm other (most just put those people down as)
#2 classical change of suicide to suicide by cop.

I don't know but many people don't know how "hard" a suicide can be. Especially with a knife. It takes a very deep cut and a very motivated person to do so. That is reflected in the stats. Suicide by bleeding out (knife to any vital atery) is so low it isn't even listed as a own catagory with the CDC.
As for my country, If a known person is suicidal we have 2 teams (at least at scene) that would be EMS and police.
The EMT will take control of the talking part and police for the securing part – but then our rate of suicide by cop is so insignificant that most of the time the police only is there to get bystanders to walk away or arrange background measures.

Mr. T says:

What is the new York thing you said? About him aiming at the legs

vexedne says:

The police really should be social workers as they often lack people skills. I understand why so many ex military are in le but we really should be focusing on hiring those with some sort of training and backgrounds relating to people. Anyway, these officers did great in a tough situation that could have gone much worse!

dummkompf says:

I thought I was going to see some kind of martial arts move

Shane D says:

Knowing these officers could have rightfully killed this man, they hadn't. Excellent job even more better knowing they administered first aid.

EthosAtheos says:

I'm fuzzy…You said he couldn't get his tazer, Why not? This looks a lot like the guy was going for death by cop. I suspect that if the officer were a better shot under pressure it would have been.

PlutoTheGod says:

great work, not just killing the man as soon as he looked at him

Guardian Angel says:

I was told that suicide is just murder turned inward
I believe he would have murdered these cops giving a chance but if he got killed in the process all the better
