Kudos to you for having the balls to say what nobody else with a platform your size will. I am 100% of the same opinion on this.

wavetro says:

Jose's charges got cleared? That's a relief

sabbottart says:

This is our system. If you plunge a knife in self defense, then you will go to Riker’s until everything is figured out. Just something to keep in mind.

Also, EBT cards are routinely declined because the people who use them don’t know what a budget is to begin with. EBT encourages advantage taking behavior. EBT promotes altercations like the Hamilton Heights incident. If you accept EBT, then you accept the city’s riff-raff coming into your store.

Anyone should be able to use a knife against an attacker. This is not a valid argument. Why would I fight with a disadvantage

zai jian says:

Parade for Jose Alba?
Ha! Stay tuned when they name a street for Austin Simon.

szlachta says:

Amazing news. Give that man a medal!

The Prophet says:

Dude definitely did not deserve to be put in Rikers. That is insane. That place is a self defense training ground.

RenThraysk says:

Saw this line recently, "the left cares more about the criminals, than the victims". Definitely seems common especially over there in the US.

James Sparham says:

Here in Canada one can only equal amount of force used against an individual. I do not agree with this at all. A criminal can literally walk into a store or your home with a gun and yet we can't defend ourselves because we have the stupidest gun laws. If I kill a guy attacking me then I goto jail for a long time. Just for defending my family or establishment. That Bodega did nothing wrong in my opinion. This is the world we live in. Criminals have more rights then those just trying to earn a living and contribute to society. Liberals just don't get till the threat is at their door. It shouldn't even come to that.

Ivan Placido says:

The NYC DA has one job……… send EVERYONE to jail

"What he did was not wrong" could not be stated more clearly! 🙂

hengineer says:

He had a knife, protected under the 2nd amendment which had it's roots in the right to self defense.

Scott 347 says:

Well said. I appreciate your sane take on the matter.

Louis: being angry at New York for being morons
random penis joke
Louis: 🤭🤭

Ano Nony says:

The story should have never been about the self-defense it should have been about the entitlement of people who use violence against people for not getting something for free. What did they expect the clerk to just give them the food for free when they couldn't pay?

jamoecw says:

people don't understand equivalent force. it isn't equivalent weapons or effort, it is the lethality of the force. the top 3 weapons that kill in the US is #1 handgun, #2 knife, #3 fists. this means that fists are very much lethal, especially in the situation the old guy was in, that means that the old guy could have pulled out a gun and shot him and still have used equivalent force. the specific situation determines how lethal it is, and some old guy versus some young guy probably isn't very good for the old guy. this is why you don't want to pick fights with random people, maybe that person has a condition that allows them to kill you because the fight might kill them. all of this is even completely discarding the protection of property aspect (and in the past people realized that the loss of property could result in death).
