MMA Fighters Try Women’s Self-Defense episode 12: the Ninja Neck Snap

I took the train from Shanghai to Hangzhou with my good friend the amazing Matt Grant to train with our friend Marco Alvarado at the Hangzhou branch of Checkmat BJJ. While there, we decided to see what happens when an MMA coach and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black belt test out a simple women’s self defense technique video. This time, we test out the infamous Hollywood ninja neck breaking technique often seen in the movies. But will this popular fight choreography sequence translate to practical self defense when push comes to shove? Moral of the story: before attempting to teach hand to hand combat techniques intended to be used as self defense, at the very least, make sure to test them out against mild resistance. If it only works on a cooperating training partner, it doesn’t actually work.

Rodrigo Sierpe says:

Dude, that video was idiotic on so many levels…. First, the techs are useless, second and foremost: why on this beautiful Earth would you want to snap the assailant's neck? On any judicial system the self defense principle must be proportional to the attacker's threat, otherwise it's jus assault and (if this silly tech actually worked) it would essentially be homicide, screwing your very own life completely in the process. This is as idiotic as it can get 🙂

PortMourant2008 says:

Okay, leave Master Wong alone, pick on this guy: https://youtu.be/_sGTbWvB1V0

maraudress says:

Awesome, thank you for showing a solution to the situation! I think it’s more helpful than the earlier videos!
I know a lot of women get stuck wanting to use one specific useless technique they were taught, rather than learning how to fight and being creative on the spot. Thanks again!

Lucas Pflueger says:

Hey Ramsey, just found this channel that’s full of ridiculous women’s self defense stuff. https://www.youtube.com/user/creativecombats
Could you do a video on it?

The Idiot Reviewer says:

if you really want to break someone's neck, you'll have a better chance achieving that with a suplex… human neck isnt so fragile that you can break it by twisting with bare hand..

Tommy_Freakin_ Begley! says:

What type of "Women's Self Defense" program attempts to teach neck snapping? I mean I know that she totally failed but even if she didn't at best she is encouraging manslaughter while at worst she's encouraging murder.

Kent Peterson says:

I love how you call these mistakes out. I can delete what dosen't work.

A. Morais says:

Ramsey, you are a nice Guy. I love your videos. Cheers from Brazil.

OmniscientWarrior says:

Funny thing about that "neck break" the lady showed, if you cooperate with the first part it will make it do nothing and you can turn towards her making impossible to do the second part.

2- Dean says:

I love you Ramsey but the thing on your face ain’t gonna make up for what you don’t got on top. You look better with it shaved off.

stephen hartley says:

womens self defence had to have been invented by a rapist, it is so ineffective that it could never have been invented by someone who cares about womens safety

Gabriel Santos says:

Hey Ramsay comment this fight, the Vem Tranquilo fight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B_Pc6lJW7g

Hugely popular meme in Brazil nowadays. Since you know castelhano maybe you can understand what they're saying (in portuguese) but basically vem tranquilo means "come at me calm". He's beating the other guy because he talked smack about his late dad.

I've just been seeing some video in which you comment that people in streets can't fight but apparently this guy does know some martial arts. How good do you think he is?

simplestrum says:

Don't be so ignorant, Ramsy. It's women's self defense. It only works if you're a woman. Unsubscribed!

Paul Fuller says:

Oh dear God… the knuckle rap release… Lol

Mur der says:

Dude I'd let that lady try that on me at combat speed and I don't even think we'll get to the neck snap part. The finger lock is good, but not a great way of getting out of the standing back bear hug, plus she literally leaves one of the guys hands free. Women's self defence is bs. Go practice boxing at least you can gain a bit of knockout power behind your punches. Good video though.

Groomsman says:

Marco looked shocked that he was there

Jorge Warcrimes says:

Women's self defense videos are very paradoxical. They are simultaneously some of the best videos on the internet – do to their comedic value and potential – and are at the same time the worst – because if anyone used the majority (being generous) of the moves shown in these looney bin vids, they would get robbed and or murdered.

Nich Adams says:

Maybe the grip break didn't work because you have meaty man hands and not bony female knuckles.

Darth Nocturnis says:

Just tested the knuckle rap wrist release on my infant.
Didn't even work on him.

dfpguitar says:

It is incredible the nonchalant confidence with which she mentions she will break the neck. Thank god it doesn't work.

Pikepaw says:

So if someone gives me a surprise hug from behind, I am supposed to murder them? LOL

Michael Hendricks says:

What if you were in an RNC position but used the leverage to twist the neck as hard and fast as you could, would that break a neck?

Léo Hemann Strack says:

liked the "how to fix it" section
if the grab is more to elbow level, that would dificult the escape woudn't it?

Nope Engi says:

Great video Ramsey! Saludos desde Mexico

Sean Fernandez says:

The word in La Habra, CA is that Marco actually had to flee the US for doing the Ninja neck snap on someone in the Walmart parking lot 😆

amon mercury says:

Ramsey is this a response to my last comment on the ninja guy? XDD I know it's not but what a coincidence man

SchaelTeer says:

This advanced technique was made for the streets, not for the gym! No wonder it doesn't work for you!
