Stephen Whittier says:

Frank, if your response is the tired old “an mma cage ain’t the streets”
then you clearly miss the point Matt makes here. Of course training on mats
is different than training in a street fight. What isn’t different,
however, are the physical skill sets that come into play in either
situation. What works, works. Tactical considerations change depending on
sport without strikes, sport with strikes, and street (no intelligent
person would argue that) but the core skills one must have are the same.

And as he points out, this isn’t a matter of opinion. The beauty of
functional martial arts is that it is verifiable through the pressure of
live training. Which is also why when it comes to live, full contact
sparring the same thing always happens to the so called “street fighting”
guys who eschew alive combat “sport” training as happens to everyone else
who doesn’t train in an alive combat sport. And literally every
self-defense guy we’ve ever seen who actually can fight worth a damn also
invariably trains in functional delivery systems like boxing, wrestling,
BJJ and Muay Thai. So when you write “good look with that”, and I assume
you meant “luck”, no worries… when push has come to shove for students,
law enforcement and security personnel we’ve trained, it’s never been an
issue.

I notice the ‘thumbs up – thumbs down’ option has been taken away.
Convenient due to all the bullshit this guy is talking.

Thumbs DOWN! An mma cage fight ain’t the streets! But hey…you guys keep
spending your training time rolling around on the floor (which is actually
a soft mat). Good look with that!

nice to hear honesty for a change. one of the first things I learned in
Shotokan Karate (my first art) was, “there is a Big difference between
technique training, and actual combat.” then we trained basics for years
and then was incuraged to train more in depth in judo and jiu jitsu and
boxing. what we refer to today as MMA. Thank you for this video sir.

PlantsAsMedicine says:

Wow, thanks for that.
