I have studied martial arts 40 years. I would not let him get the knife
that close to my body—I have actually disarmed a knife wielding person in
a real fight. He attacked me with his left hand and I side stepped to his
left, did an elbow strike that forced him to drop the knife. My first
intent after avoiding the attack was to make him drop the knife.

Chris Schene says:

Chris Schene says:

I agree with you—-he does not force the attacker to drop the knife and
the knife is VERY close to his torso. very, very dangerous. I have been a
real knife fight and the first thing I did was make the attacker drop the
knife. This is a problem with many Tae-Kwon-Do schools–the instructors
have never been in a real fight!

Chris Schene says:

I don’t wish to appear disrespectful here, do let me clarify. The master’s
technique is strong and beautiful and he would probably win the fight with
a knife wielder. However, the ability of an 8th Dan is far and above that
of his average Black Belt and student body: If they are not fighters they
may well be hurt by a knife wielding attacker. One of my students was
attacked with a knife and he used a spear hand to the eyes of the
attacker—end of fight!

In my opinion , this is “how to get yourself killed in one short lesson”,
that’s why:
firstly this attack from the up to down is use in movies not in reality
even if your opponent is crasy,
secondly a knife attack is MULTIPLE and MULTI-DIRECTIONAL and it’s very
fast and agressive,
thirdly if you block with a karaté block like age-uke he will cut your
wrist and you will die in three minutes… so the reality is traditionals
systems are best for spirits and long practice and maybe for efficacity in
competition BUT in reality you have to be more fast, more agressive and
more intelligent than your opponent. and if he’s got a knife you have to
RUN, a man with a gun or a knife is dangerous like a hundread men.don’t
belive that with one short lesson you will able to beat an armed man, maybe
with 50 years of practice evry days it’s possible. research ”knife
attack” in youtube and watch the first video, that’s reality
