Duty to retreat is the dumbest thing ever. It's legitimate victim blaming and strips aggressors of accountability for their actions and their duty to have respect.

@MissMy5.0 says:

Does he win on appeal?

@MissMy5.0 says:

The comment of imagine if it was your kid gutted bothers me as a parent of 3. That is exactly why kids have zero accountability these days, and the exact reason why the altercation started in the first place. Its the same when altercations with police end in a death. Don't argue with police, argue with the judge because thats when it matters My kid wouldn't have been arguing with an old man and calling him names, nor surrounding him aggressively because I raised them otherwise.

@TammyAus says:

As a fifty four year old I’m horrified by this judgment. Mr Miu was attacked without provocation by vile and drunk teenagers. He now has to spend his life in jail. They attacked him and pushed him over. How could he have gotten away from them? There is no way they would have left him alone. If I was getting attacked like that I would have fought back with whatever I had. Absolutely terrible and I feel terrible for this man. So do these kids get charged now for their behaviour?

@benjaminhon86 says:

When you get attacked by a mob, i guess you just sit there and get mobbed

@TarotByGinger says:

Each teenager in this group was very drunk. The words and perspectives of drunk teenagers who thought it’d be fun to verbally and physically attack a guy minding his own business are held up as the truth? This is a very sad outcome for this man. Here is an example of wealthy white privilege. My heart breaks for this guy. The consequence for these kids will play out for their entire lives – I don’t expect them to understand their responsibility and accountability in all of this.

@MissMy5.0 says:

You are supposed to get your ego in check the older you get. This to me was a definite ego battle to me.

@AnonymousQwerty says:

I disagree with the verdict. He wasn’t on trial for changing stories, talking to police when he shouldn’t have, evidence tampering, etc. He was not charged with any of those things. He was being attacked by a mob and defended himself.

@MissMy5.0 says:

Crazy how self defense varies state to state. How is it not just a clear line?

@benjaminhon86 says:

How is this not even appealed

@MissMy5.0 says:

I fall on the side of it not mattering what people do after the altercation. Either he was defending himself or not. It's such a slippery slope. Anything above 1 on 1 becomes confusing. Any major size or strength discrepancy makes it muddy too. Nobody here acted correctly in my opinion. When i see a big group on one person I tend to see self defense. Sucks how many lives were destroyed because of a few poor judgment calls. We are getting too close to not being able to stand up for yourself. If you don't back down to a bully it becomes your fault what happens afterwards?

@zojairam says:

What about the release of the jail conversations that he has with his brother?

@susanagnello6261 says:

Whenever someone is from another country the misunderstanding due to language barriers is thrown around.
I feel that more important than this is the cultural differences with regard to how people from different countries response to situations.
For example this guy would have probably been viewed as acting appropriately with disrespectful teenagers in his motherland!

@JustMe-hc5xy says:

I've gone back and forth on the verdict. Ultimately, I think the jury got it right, apart from the Maddy charge. I think I have struggled because i think some of the youths were equally responsible, and it doesn't sit well with me me that only one person is punished. It was the perfect storm of actions/decisions all leading to the devastating and avoidable outcome.

@Alan-nn1yv says:

I have been on a Jury before not for murder, but for serious alleged crime and we deliberated for two days and three of us absolutely refused to change our verdict no matter how many times we sent notes to the judge, stating that we cannot come to a unanimous decision and the judge asking us to try again, and no matter how many times the other jurors yelled and screamed and cursed and got mad we stood our ground because we wholeheartedly believed what we believed based on the evidence during the trial. Too many times jurors are swayed or give in because of pressure or they feel singled out or because they just want all to end and it completely does the entire justice system especially the alleged perpetrator a total disservice. U have to hold onto your convictions no matter what and after two days we could not reach unanimous decision and was a hung Jury. I would almost guarantee with how long the jury was out, because this wasn’t an immediate verdict there were initially were thinking not guilty and they ended up changing their mind because they were swayed or pressured into it and that’sthe fucked up thing with a jury system. This was not this was not homicide. This guy acted in self-defense 100% and I hope to God he wins on appeal. Doesn’t matter teenagers doesn’t matter. The families are crying and they have scars. This guy had every reason to fear for his life and every reason to protect his life. Jury for it 100% wrong.

@marisolperez1321 says:

I think he should appeal. For me it was self defense!

@KittyMcK13 says:

I think the jury got it wrong. Those kids were out of control. This is teaching kids that they can gang up on an elderly man and get away with it. I do still feel sorry for Isaac though.

@Mandola-Jane says:

I am not sure I agree with all the verdicts, not that it matters

@Trad-Am says:

In these liberal areas, you're probably better off going for Bench trial, at least you've got a better chance of following law, not feelings!

@marisolperez1321 says:

Four of them were accused (charged)too,but they didn’t say what kind of charges

@susanagnello6261 says:

Sticks & stones may brake your bones but words could never harm you !
Obviously he was never taught this🤨

@scottjohnson8576 says:

Oh my, beware of them drunken teenagers!!! Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!!! Nevermind the knife wielding psycho creeps, huh?

@nunyabusiness3666 says:

Screw this not talking to police garbage. How about just don't lie or hide evidence.
His actions after the incident sealed his fate.

@jessicatriebsch5252 says:

Jury got it wrong In my opinion. Feel awful for the family and friends of Isaac…. but honestly they provoked him,and kept at it. Then they all surrounded him,pushed him down in the water and wouldn't lethim get back up,they slapped him n the face,taunted him….and not just one or two kids giving him shit….this was way beyond bullshitting around with some old man.
All those kids surrounding him…then multiple females,one in which went directly to him in his face and pointed and poked her finger in his face….I hope that isn't the female he was accused of striking. She was quite a distance away from the crowd…but took it upon herself to go towards Mui. She sought him out. And funny that the one and only time he supposedly struck someone during the altercation ,says the state, that one time just so happens was the one time that the camera wasn't focusing on him,,,which ws a matter ofa second or 2. Camera picked up everythingelse,everything….eveverything except for that half a sedond of that very mome tthat . Hmmm….odd
