Even though modern sporting rifles, like the AR15 are all the rage these days, you aren’t giving up much, in terms of practical performance, if you choose to use a lever action rifle for self-defense.

Mike ithink you have opened a can of worms here. I vote with you a .45 Colt with a 250 grain soft lead bullet pushed with 30 or so grains of FFFg powder will be a hard hitter and give a smoke screen to hide behind.Of course that is my opinion and I might be wrong
I have always kept a lever action in my Jeep, for a time I threw an AR in there but then decided I did not need it. I do not feel like I am out gunned with it. I chose my Marlin 1895GBL in 45-70. Yes thats a lot of gun but I live where wildlife tries to do more to you then humans will. I also figure if I need it for dealing with two legged predators since I am in or around my car there is a good chance they are in or around their car and there is very little on a car that the .45-70 will not punch through and it can easily disable an engine.
Great advice. I also live in MA. I had all the cool ARs and AKs. Due to some harder times I’ve sold them. Now you know I can’t buy them. I’m looking into a lever guns. Partially because there freakin cool and also on with a micro red dot is all I need aside from a carry gun. Social media is saturated with all the cool guy Tactical stuff so everyone wants what they see on there. But for self defense and home defense. You’re fine with a pistol or a lever gun. An before anyone jumps on me. Yes I think MA gun laws suck and no one should be able to regulate what we can have for guns. I’m just living in the reality of what I can have in my State
Even though I have several 9mm autos and da snubbies my favorite carry guns are Vaqueros, Piettas, and Cimarrons single action. Home long gun Mossberg 500 18in with heavy 4shot field loads. Bad guys usually seem to run when they realize their "victim" can put them down from what I've read and saw on you tube.
Gunfight scene in “Open Range”…I have a Marlin 1894 in .44 mag and an 1873 Winchester in .45 Long Colt…I’d never feel undergunned esp with a matching caliber handgun!
To sum it up – its not the gun. It is what you can do with it. I love seeing rapid lever action fire with 5 empties in the air.
Excellent presentation. One admittedly ignorant question: what kind of rear sight is that on the Winchester carbine?

To put it simply: If it shoots a cartridge, it'll kill someone dead.
Only you can determine what you "need".

Ah, lever rifles and Pennsylvania. A perfect day Mike
Excellent video again! I always enjoy!
Mike, as always you make the best videos! I have never watched one of your videos that wasn't excellent! Please keep them coming.

Lever actions are all I own. I feel that I can handle anything with them!
Love my lever guns. ARs are cool too but I'm old school and they are just not my thing.

Nice video)
I would have no qualms using a lever action for self-defense. Great vid Mike, all the best! N.C. here where we still have (most of) our freedoms.
