Let’s Try Self-Defense against a Machete!

When you’re minding your own business, walking down the street and then happen to be attacked my a machete wielding maniac (you know, as one does) how will you respond? MMA coach Ramsey Dewey, martial artist Jourdan Chow, and BJJ & Wing Chun practitioner Tyler Casselman try out a self defense technique we saw on the internet. Will a double leg takedown and a stomp be enough to stop a machete wielding maniac? Let’s find out!

Ramsey any chance you could do a vid. on the degree of practicality of Systema for self defens?.Thought maybe some of the combat sambo ppl that frequent your gym might have been exposed to it.Thanks.

While you are taking me down I will be plunging the machete in your back, best this to do is run turn throw you phone in there face and keep running lol

xarlock's how to channel says:

Most people using a machete swing it like an axe or hatchet. They use it with a lot more force than necessary. Your best bet (assuming you can see them coming) is to run the fuck away, or if that's not possible, then feint towards them to get them to swing too early, then attack them during the recovery phase from their over swinging. If this fails, you are just fucked.

In Texas we have another far more effective technique, we shoot the fucker. We also shoot any other fuckers who came with them. The best self defense tool against any attacker is a gun.

God may have made men, but it took Sam Colt to make them equal.

There are some famous BJJ blackbelts on YouTube showing "BJJ knife defence techniques" and I feel that it is extremely irresponsible.

No REAL weapons instructor will tell you that you wont get cut. Its not about not getting cut, its about not dying.

Apparently, everybody was machete-fighting.
And it was just a little bit frightening…

It's good for an unarmed attacker, but a firearm is what I would use against someone wielding a machete. If I dont have that I'm running like the flash.

Banished Air says:

One: you're doing it wrong, you're not supposed to shoot for the takedown, you're supposed to move into the weapon so that it has less room to travel first. Now, here is where my own opinion and the original video separate. I don't think you should go for the takedown, which brings me to number two: from inside the weapon's weak spot, control the wielding arm and use a trip to disarm the blade, paired with a strike to the face – preferably eyes. This should cause enough of a distraction of thought to loosen the wielding hand and make it easier. A weapon must always be attached to a hand, which must always be attached to an arm, which must always be attached to a shoulder. Control one and you can easily gain control of the others.
