Really difficult for the officer. Shoot and definitely save mom. Each second the officer didn't shoot could have been the second the son stabbed and killed his mother.
John, Mike should be the one doing the analysis, and the determination of whether the officer acted properly. With all due respect, he is the expert. He has been in the trenches and faced situations in real time. Your commentary is important too, I just feel Mike should do the synopsis.
Stop trying to make the cops human I watch the video where the cop broke the 80-year-old dementia patients arm and him and his fellow officers laughed about it at the station for you to just say that these cops are high five minute fuck they are high-fiving this guys a killer they are definitely high-fiving it’s part of their fucking bullshit stop pretending like some of us haven’t been around you guys cops you know I’ve been in your inner circle I know exactly how you act when you’re not around the public and trust me it’s disgusting you’re a bunch of frat boy wannabes who never went to college and now you got a badge in a fucking gun and you go around fucking people up all day long saying you’re heroes you’re not
While it might have played out differently, the suspect gets to make choices, but he or she isn't the only one that makes them. When you play with fire, as they say. Officers took an opportunity to end what could have become an even more tragic circumstance, they did what I would have done in a similar situation. I'm not going to wait for things to degenerate, either the dumbass complies or he gets lead.
05:11A pistol mounted light does not give you the light you need in most situations so it’s not necessarily going to be the best choice. A brighter handheld light is preferable.

The mother in this case, is akin to stupid women who keep abusive b/f's or husbands around; she doesn't seem to realize that sooner or later her son will hurt her. They don't know when to walk away from a toxic relationship. The son was asking for it. There was no communication when the cop told him to drop the knife. So, it had to be done.
guys would he have better education, and be better reprehended maybe he would know when/why to comply; and perhaps thought a better strategy to get out of his situation [either by success or suicide]. cause he was only successful on relating the effort of ending his life to his mother and the cops

Lesson #1 is that we don’t need people who will hold their mother at knife point on this planet.
All he had to do was drop the knife. I guess he was confused. No blame on the officer though. And she needed to say "please don't kill him" sooner.
