Knife Grips for Self-Defense

@MelissaBackwoods says:

Knife in video: Fisher Blades Beckwith Covert. USA-made, sub-compact fixed blade designed expressly for defensive daily carry.

Different Grips:

1. Hammer Grip: Probably the most basic grip to use – also
the most instinctive. It works well with
longer knives like the Beckwith FS when
swinging/slashing the blade, and it can
work very well with a shorter blade

Pros: easy, instinctive and requires little
training to use. Very easy to draw to the
grip.
Cons: limits the articulation of the blade
for deep-cut power-slashing; not great for
draw-cutting.

2. Reverse Edge Out: Used primarily and to excellent effect as a
short-range defensive grip.

Pros: excellent for push/punch-style
defensive techniques, as well as for
stabbing techniques. Relatively easy to
draw to this grip.
Cons: limited range; requires moderate
training to support techniques; can be
difficult to set up carry/draw to this grip

3.Saber: This grip and its variants is popular in many
southeast Asian knife fighting systems.
Used to great eMect for a wide range of
defensive techniques.

Pros: excellent for deep-cut
slashing/power-cutting techniques AND
stbbing/thrusting. The thumb support
provides extra blade articulation which
creates more penetrating cuts.
Cons: Requires moderate to advanced
training to make deep-cut slashing
techniques eMective; Requires moderate
training to draw to this grip. care needs to
be given to vulnerability of the thumb in
stabbing/thrusting techniques.

4. Reverse Edge In: This version of reverse grip is used as a
short-range defensive grip – especially
good for β€œtrapping” techniques.
Pros: excellent for pull-style (draw-cut)
defensive techniques, as well as for
stabbing. Relatively easy to draw to this
grip.
Cons: limited range; requires moderate
training to support techniques; can be
difficult to set up carry/draw to this grip.
