While up in Boston this weekend and earlier this week, Jared Jessup (2nd Degree RGJJN Black Belt) and I made this video in response to several requests about dealing with an aggressive person shoving you in the moments preceding a potential fight.
This is somewhere between a preemptive move and a responsive one. Hope you get some ideas from it and go train it!
Be sure to look for some amazing new content coming from Budo Brothers and from BJJ Fanatics (check out their channels)

I taught myself judo from a book I checked out of the public library in 1977. I never returned it and have been practicing by myself in the mirror ever since. I gave myself a black belt based on the criteria. I can tell you that I most certainly can whip your ass, so don’t think you’re all that.
If for some reason I couldn’t win with my judo I would be wearing a Lil Runt stun gun I purchased on Amazon around my neck. You would find me an unstoppable foe.
Most states have strangulation laws, which equate any sort of choke, that blocks either oxygen, blood flow through the neck, or both as felony assault. When discussing self defense, you need to understand escalation of force, and disparity of force, as described by the law. If a guy of similar size comes up and starts yelling at you and attempts to push you, and you resort immediately to a choke, you will have to justify the escalation of force used – felony assault, attempted murder. If you get into a self defense situation and use a choke to protect yourself, it's best to never tell the cops you "choked" someone., especially if they weren't armed and are similar to your size and age.
Kids shove . Adult males punch .
very nace self-defense
Shove was back in the days no one's shove anymore…
