Japan’s maritime self-defense force carrier to guard U.S. Navy supply ship

일본 최대 호위함 ‘이즈모’, 첫 미군 함정 보호 임무 Japan dispatched its largest destroyer to protect an American military vessel near the Japanese coast… amid escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Izumo, the country’s biggest Maritime Self-Defense Force helicopter carrier, took off from the Yokosuka port near Tokyo on Monday to escort a U.S. supply ship in the Pacific Ocean. This is Japan’s first military mission under a new security legislation enacted in 2015. The legislation primarily enables Japan to exercise the right to collective self-defense, or come to the aid of an ally under attack. But the drastic change is considered controversial and face opposition and criticims from its own citizens and nations around the world as it gives Tokyo the green light for pre-emptive attacks if necessary.
