Im a longtime martial artist of over 40 odd yrs and recently i decided to add a weapon to my background
I did lau- Gar – Shotokan – JuJitsu and wing chun and also fought semi pro kickboxing and reached instructor status back in the 70s
Despite all that background i still felt that advancing age was making me feel ineffective (im now 67) . . . . . i decided to "up the ante" due to all the knife crime here in the UK
I am teaching myself Escrima techniques with a single stick and i have to say its going better than expected
Im doing this simply by looking at free content on a great you tube channel (Paul Ingram Kali centre)
The way i train on my tyre dummy is to get real fast effective combinations working for me . . i dont wait to be hit and i dont need all the "pattycake" stuff that being in a club offers i have about 8 basic strikes that are easy to remember and totally badass
Just look at any Dog brothers video and you will see that the most effective strikes are always the basics . . . .
the way i train almost makes me feel sorry for anyone who wants to pull a blade on me
To anyone looking for real world self preservation you simply cannot beat learning how to use a single stick. The rewards are just amazing, the confidence is off the charts and its great to be able to not worry about weapons
Beautiful demo and technique! But this is not real stress testing – have a real stick swung at your head full speed and force… things will change drastically when you do. You learn real quick what works and doesn’t. Ie; she had her back turned against 2nd opponent while he waited to attack. Very different if both are attacking same time w intent not staging for video. Not a criticism, this is good demo and marketing by a badass GOAT in FMA, but don’t confuse it for reality.

On the street never is like that!
Where can I get one of those swords, Master Ladra is holding?
Is the fencing style related to cutlass or saber techniques or machete fighting? Or without such relations to other styles?
