More importantly what you can do in your self defence training to help you overcome fear. How to Overcome Fear in a Fight. The fear of taking a punch cripples even the best of us. It’s ESPECIALLY a common problem among beginners learning how to fight and defend themselves. I mean… how do you expect someone to fight well if he’s afraid of getting hit? It’s near impossible right? Fortunately, there IS a solution and ANYBODY can overcome this fear. Before we start you have to understand the possible causes of the fear of taking a punch in a fight. There are 3 simple factors. The first is being hit actually hurts (it’s a pain response), the second is you can’t see the punches (it’s the fear of the unknown), third, you’re not mental prepared for being punched (this is the emotional response). In short, the expectation of pain combined with the fear of the unknown and lack of will lead to an increased fear of getting punched in a fight. A quick story that I witnessed when I was 14 where a group of three young man tried to rob a guy who looked like he was in his late 50's . He was with his son who was approximately 10- 15 years old . The guys first pulled out a knife the man remained calm but as soon as one of the culprits grabbed his son the man just went crazy and took out all three of them. He just beat the shit out of the three guys. He later called cops he barely had any injuries but all the other three were bleeding out of their mouths and nose. Like it was really badass watching an old man beat the shit out of three grown men.

Car Enthusiast says:

Soon attacker charges at me or threatens me by pointing at me, with curses to end my life then l always rugby tackle them down by making first move, and ground grapple their bodies to floor in ground restraint until police arrive. I know many people had been arrested, just by holding the attacker down to ground and appealed then got clean after. I always say, knock the attacker down and grapple on ground till police arrive is what l would do and don't worry, answer questions later because it you self and you own safety you should focus on instead of anybody else's once attacker turned theirs on you then being arrested or paying harsh consequences isn't relevant to think about and you should avoid over seeing or over thinking if you want a effective mindset then just go with adrenaline rush. The way l look at it, it either you or the attacker but attacker would have more advantage if you coward down because always provocative come in to a fight expecting you not to fight back and be easy target also what else you got to think of is you self, forget law also gaining bad reputation but focus on you self for once as these type of provocative attackers are dangerous and must be hard only for fact that when they shout and threaten then you start listening as they think but just to start a fight then they must not have nothing to loose, which to why they are seriously dangerous if you just run or do nothing and their mean also nasty when you run or try hide so their only easy targets if you prepared to defend you self and act upon adrenaline. Remember, you have first second upper hand advantage for change with surviving a ordeal, that could end with you life changing injuries or worst you life if you do nothing. People who fight back, a t upon what l mentioned above with out worrying over aftermath with police and come out with scrapes or bruises but could had been worst than people who coward down and cry. Worst that can happen, is getting arrested but released either by station or through a good solicitor because police don't want to waste valuable resources on you defending you self due to you accused attacker from camera or eye witnessed provocating you to fight or hitting you and starting a fight for no reason. Police focus more on the attacker, instead of the defender. Yes, even though it is against law to grapple and ground restraint as it redeemed excessive force in Britain but l don't know of any police station willing to blame the defender instead of the provocator or provocators that started the fight so keep that in you mindsets when ever you go about you daily life and encounter such criminals on you back.
