What you said is very true. I always watch bullshit videos of 123 steps but they aren't realistic. Realistically you are put in certain circumstances where you need to have a wide range of options because anything could occur.

Miguel Perez says:

nick what happen to the fidget spinner video was it not a good tip for self defense?

ThE_GriNcH says:

Nice video, but you missed mentioning the importance of bringing your arms up quickly as the attacker could also choke with the one hand and strike with the other.

Ghazzi says:

nick why did you delete the fidget spiner video

Charnisa Bradley says:

I like your videos, but folks really need to learn grappling to understand how to deal unrehearsed clinch / grappling / choking situations. While being on the ground is NOT a good option for a street encounter, how would someone learn how to avoid being there unless you have trained for hundreds of hours resisting take downs from opponents who are really trying to take you down? It's like learning to not to drown without ever getting into the water.

It's great to talk about balancing against a wall before throwing knees or kicks, etc, but to learn how to apply those strikes require practicing with someone who is really pushing you hard and trying to take you down, ergo needing to learn real grappling. Even if braced against a wall, you probably don't want to kick or knee unless you have dealt with bad guy's grip on you or at least have some control of his head. His grip on your neck and jerking motion will unbalance you if you are on one leg. Dealing with close grappling situations is more about feel / reaction, and physical fitness. The first can't be taught without a lot rolling / randori / wrestling. The second requires a lot of time in the gym. That's the unfortunate reality.

Munim Jamal says:

could you also go for the fingers? grab the pinkie and twist the shit out of it

cafehumanhours says:

Great point, Nick, I remember how UFC fighter Alexander Volkov explained in one of the videos that full power muai thai knees are not well for a clinch game in mma (as well as: street fight) – if you loose balance in the MT ring and fall, the ref stops both of you, but mmastreet brawl the fight just goes on in terrbile position – on the ground, so he assumed that we should only use short quick kicks with knees if necessary.
Another good point was concerning long arms – the majority of men are much bigger then women, it is barely possible to eyegouge if you opponent`s arms are longer and bigger (thicker) than yours – then another option may come (if nothing else works) – try to crunch a little finger.

North American YouTuber says:

If someone's strangling you, and you're not on a wall, you can just bob, and weave to get free. It's what they teach in white belt BJJ.

rsine100 says:

I have a question. If someone has you by the throat, wouldn't it be much easier to just grab one of his pinky fingers and pull it back?

truthseeker2015 says:

If people followed what God (Allah) says, not women should need to ever handle such situation because there would not be any attacker. How about that?

kusta80 says:

Nick, when a friend of mine was returning home, two person stopped him grabbed his forearms and a third person appeared and asked for his money, no knives, no nothing, just this. What could he do? I thought, kicking the third person and then dealing with the other two.
