You will certainly be bitten while the growling and snarling will freak you out. Understanding you will be bitten is the key element in the best defense against a dog attack. Then CHOOSE where you get bitten (your weak arm). If you have time wrap your arm in your jacket or shirt for protection. The strategy from there is to apply a technique which involves a choke hold as somebody mentioned in a comment on this thread.
Over my years of fighting brother, i noticed that kicking the rib cage on some insane dog would be the best thing to do if you have it into profile? But i don't go around and do this, love animals.
