Choosing a martial art can be more tricky than most think. Not only there are a lot of different martial arts, many of them claim to offer something which they do not deliver as for example the necessary self defense knowledge.
In this Martial Arts Explored episode I’ll share what I consider to be the most important aspects when choosing the right martial art for you, based on my 15 year experience of practicing and exploring martial arts.
If you enjoy critical thinking then also check out my new channel The Journey, where I share various stories on lessons that I learned the hard way and apply critical thinking to other areas besides martial arts such as yoga, meditation, spirituality and much more: https://www.youtube.com/rokasleo
For example check out my video on how most of my Aikido students abandoned me here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLMD8RHk0h4

Welcome to the Martial Arts Journey YouTube channel!
My name is Rokas. I’m a Lithuanian guy who trained Aikido for 14 years, 7 of them running a professional Aikido Dojo until eventually I realized that Aikido does not live up to what it promises.
Lead by this realization I decided to make a daring step to close my Aikido Dojo and move to Portland, Oregon for six months to start training MMA at the famous Straight Blast Gym Headquarters under head coach Matt Thornton.
After six months intensive training I had my first amateur MMA fight after which I moved back to Lithuania. During all of this time I am documenting my experience through my YouTube channel called “Martial Arts Journey”.
Now I am slowly setting up plans to continue training MMA under quality guidance and getting ready for my next MMA fight as I further document and share my journey and discoveries.

for self defence pick MMA or Mua thai having fear or not with long time training and much effort you will became a beast believe it or not is not like you will use the techniques that you learned all the time, but in some extreme situations like if someone random person attacks you without reason tries to steal you or hurt you or something,
Your B-roll is terrible. It's just distracting. You're better off showing yourself talk, or do a simpler B-roll that's not a ton of ridiculous, distracting clips.
im sick of men at my school backing me against walls because im smaller than them and they think its funny i cant fight back. i picked up boxing during lockdown, for self defense and for general exercise because i wanted to be healthier. it was good for a while, i have anger issues and it helped, but now its just frustrating, im not improving, and i want something else. something more about being fast and technical than about being fast and powerful. i'll keep doing boxing too, but im tryna figure out what else to try.
edit just to clarify cause i overthought this after i wrote it: i know my situation isnt terrible. its some bullying, and a couple old dudes when i walk home – and i know plenty of other people have it way worse. just in case anyone experiencing worse read this and felt upset at how small my situation is compared to theirs. trust me, im aware its not a big deal.
What is the difference between Akido and Hapkido? And why is Akido not a good system? I am asking because these were my choices. I am planning on getting back into Martial arts and I like the style of both of the ones I am asking about.
I personally believe I was made for martial arts. I did Taekwondo in my teen years and still can do a pretty good high kick if I say so myself. It was the only school near literally within a block of a distance to me and was closed down due to the owner having personal problems. I didn't continue because I had lost interest. And I always said I would go back and practice martial arts but never did. But how the world is lately I feel ready to go back tbh.
A good school with a good teacher is a lot more relevant than the sign on the door.
Me here after watching god of high school and liking Han daewi

Been doing karate for a few years and have made it to black belt 1st degree. Should I stick with it or branch out and try different styles

What's your opinion on Kudo? It's Karate and Judo mixed into a martial art

Honestly I just want to knock the teeth out of my bully
