Alright, all, I have heard you and think in retrospect that I came too hard at this homeowner in the intro and mid-roll. Some more compassion and understanding on my part was warranted, and I failed in that and I apologize for being too harsh. Please forgive me.
I get that he's just waking up. I get that he's worried about someone banging on his door late at night. I get that he wants to be armed to assess that. I get that he didn't have an alarm at his home and that he didn't expect the cops to be there at all hours.
I think that the outcome here sucked, and hate that it happened.
I think that the analysis is still valid, and I think he made significant mistakes here that got him shot. I think that the officer did the right thing in knocking and announcing himself multiple times, and that he was justified to shoot a guy pointing a gun at him. I don't think it's reasonable for the homeowner to point a gun at an unknown with a flashlight who is knocking on his door and not trying to enter the home. That's unreasonable and what precipitated the tragedy. I get that the officer HAD to respond to the call, HAD to make contact, HAD to investigate.
But again, I should have been more thoughtful in how I presented that and voiced it.
I am going to leave this up and not edit it simply to own my error in not being compassionate enough.
I see very little fault on the part of the Deputy. He could have been able handle the situation a bit better but overall he did a great job.
It is entirely possible that the homeowner never heard the Deputy say that he is a Deputy and acted accordingly. He heard a pounding on the door at midnight then saw a flashlight looking in at the front door. He was defending his home to the best of his ability with what training that he had. I think that he is lucky that his injuries were not worse.
Mistakes were made on both sides, mostly in communication at the outset of the event, and hopefully everybody learned from it all.

Don’t shoot what you can’t see.. it’s simple.
whatever credibility you had with this channel is gone….you are defending an indefensible act…

“-I am the law!”
Cop is an idiot… they are all crooks…
But burglars have rang door bells, and just because it's unusual or hasn't happened doesn't mean it can't or won't happen.
cop is wrong
It would be a lot less work to delete this video than burying all the comments. This is a horrible take.
