Hilarious that untrained citizens need to evaluate the situation and can only use proportional force but a cop can unload an entire magazine into a guy holding small dull scissors.
There is no self defense law in Canada. It depends on Judge will you get life in prison or less. I teach every Canadian if you wanna be sure what your right is there is no right to self defense.
The problem with the States and places like Texas is that you get dickleshits who "defend" themselves with deadly force when someone comes to their door, when a neighbour throws something into their yard, when someone cuts them off in traffic. All because the "victim" assumes they are threatened, and the broad interpretation of "threats" and they allowance of lethal response means they have a body count. Do we really want that in Canada, because we have plenty of the same kind of eager dickleshits up here too??
The option to escape a situation is a viable one because merch and property can be replaced………lives cannot. A perp can turn their life around and make amends, so upholding the sanctity of life over retribution is still a same course. Sure losing stuff makes us angry, it hurts big-time………..but if we embrace a mindset of vengeance ( and the fallout from that) it changes the whole tenor of our society, and not in a beneficial way.

Canadais a victim state. You are only allowed to be a victim. You are not entitled to defend yourself. No matter what the situation you WILL BE DRAGGED THROUGH THE COURT SYSTEM AND WILL BE PUNISHED MORE THAT THE ATTACKER.
Falling under scrutiny for home defense is absolutlely bogus. Criminals shouldn't feel as though they have the upper hand/trump card that they do when they have a weapon. Homeowners having lengthy court cases and legal fees for someone elses poor judgement is a massive fail. If one has the gall to enter someone elses home with a weapon it should be reasonable that they would be met with force.
It's absolutely sickening and embarrassing to be Canadian when we're forced BY LAW to be victims. Our grandparents did NOT fight in WW2 for us to be treated like cattle by our rulers
We don't have the right to own guns and the government makes laws to incentivise criminals to harm us. Tells you what our politicians think of us. Criminal law should be provincial so I can sleep at night.
Reasonable force and proportional force is BS. A citizen is not likely going to know exactly what level of threat they are under, therefore maximum force is reasonable to guarantee the safety of myself and my family. Self defence is a god given or natural given right and cannot be morally restricted by any government legislation. If it is restricted then it is the law and the government that is immoral.
If you find yourself in this situation, "When the Police arrive to fill out their report". Be polite and exercise your rights to not make any statements until you have spoken to your lawyer. They will pressure you to make a statement, don't. Talk to a Lawyer first.
The Police cannot prevent crimes, they can only pick up the pieces after the fact.
