Best Way to Defend Yourself is to carefully pick your position in a street fight. This week look at a case study in which a Bouncer is faced with a knife attacker. In Part 2 of the video We look at how to defend yourself against a knife attack using some simple knife defence tips. PLEASE ALSO WATCH: KNIFE ATTACKS!!! What Self Defence Experts Won’t Say BEST MOMENT to Defend Knife Attack Part 1 examines some simple myths of how to defend yourself when facing a knife. The realty of knife attacks is that you often can’t run away from your attacker. Also fancy martial arts moves just won’t cut it in the real world. What you need to do is recognise the threat and use the appropriate self defence strategy. The simple idea is to identifying whether the person is trying to kill or threaten you. This can make a difference in how you approach the knife in your own defence. We argue that showing the knife to the victim is a form of intimidation. It is a threat that is psychological in nature and designed to increase the degree of compliance. This is especially likely in violent crimes such as robbery. The opposite is likely to be true when you can’t see the knife. That is he is more likely trying to seriously injure or kill you. It’s often the case that when the knife is hidden intention is to use the knife straight away. These types of attacks are often in the form of ambushes. Under these circumstances you are expecting to find a higher likelihood of extreme violence. The last section of the video discusses exactly how to defend against the knife according to the type of threat. If they are simply threatening you with the knife then you have a chance to smoother the weapon and disable the knife hand. Although, this is commonly taught in many YouTube videos, one detail often overlooked it the placement of your hands. We discuss this point in more detail, examining where exactly to hold the knife hand in a safer manner to gain maximum control over your attackers arm. Of course, this moves beyond psychology into the fighting. About Us ELEVATING YOUR FIGHT IQ: Videos blending Martial Arts, Crime Science, and Psychology. How do pro fighters do those powerful ranged sweeps / reaps? It's like they just take their feet completely out from under them & they fall hard on their arse! You see it in UFC, muay thai, kickboxing, & maybe even judo sometimes

North American YouTuber says:

The doorman did a good job. He was very lenient. The guy with the knife had so many chances to just walk away.

Von Ace says:

I think the bouncer should've punched him as soon as he brought out the knife. When someone brings out a weapon it's clear what their intention is.

TheMDGMobile says:

Bad guy chins up on the doorman and left, right, goodnight!

truth teller says:

If you're in a confrontation like the video and he reaches into his pocket. I ain't waiting to see what comes out. Its lights out for him.

david69funk says:

I had a guy pull one when I was younger about 15. I ran so fast there was smoke coming off my trainers. He didnt even say anything just pointed it at the stomach didnt want my money either. Some really disgusting disturbed individuals out there.

BlackBeltValeTudo says:

I'm seeing an opportunity for a nasty armdrag at 3:45

The Rabbit Whisperer says:

As the knife man gets angry he sticks out his chin, the knife has made him over confident. He probably has used this to intimidate a few times. This time it was the wrong guy. Brilliant video. Thanks

Shaun Elliott says:

It's fortunate in this case because he's gesturing so much, and uses his right hand far more than his left. I'm left handed an it can be a Blessing or a Curse. You are showing how to do this in a "Controlled Environment" you know that this never happens like that, full marks for not having Passive Resistance, because that's just for trainer's that don't know shit.

inlikeflynn says:

I think the key here was the knockout. That nullified the 'punk' the weapon, AND any situation. Man that was cool.

Harry Gruene says:

BAD ADVICE.
You should do EVERYTHING possible to control or disarm their weapon first. Go for the hand/wrist holding it as your life depends on it!
Knife,gun,acid. ANY type of weapon.
Jam him up and be brutal.

Before being forced to grapple, try to turn both his testicles to a paste as he wants to kill you.

This example was sheer luck as he really wasn't meaning to stab him and they both probably know each other due to measured response.

Julian Moro says:

Great Videos! Very informative life saving techniques thank you! Keep up the great content!

Igor Mlinaric says:

The only youtube channel that is real. Situational awareness is of the hook on this channel. Thank you, Sifu Mark, every video you make is spot on.

K Roon says:

Did any1 notice that the knife guy actually took the knife out and to the front and opened it with his other hand.
That would have been past my time to strike

John Lee says:

If he were Rick Grimes then he would bite your neck 🤣

Shuji Ling says:

Awesome thank

Jeff Monroe says:

Play with assholes get shit on your hands.

Aple Smith says:

The bouncer was quick when he hit the knife carrier. But he was also lucky that the knife carrier didn't really seem to know what he was doing or how to fight with a knife. Could have ended up very differently.

Jordi Baselmans says:

The original 3-piece & soda!

Maza Khan says:

900th like 🥳🥳

Dr Vinod G Shirodkar says:

Thanks ! Sir for sharing this life saving techniques to us . God bless You 🙏 .

James Richards says:

Truly brilliant combination, he kept his head when the blade came out, most wouldn't. I think that was the trick there, he kept him talking, being calm, readying his attack, then boom.

brio last says:

Seems like your knife disarm technique requires a lot of strength and dominance, which will make it very dangerous for a smaller and less strong defender. Good video, though.

Chris N. says:

the grip above the ellbow is risky but good to feel better the movement of the arm. for the upper arm there is not much space so brain has not much to calculate if arm is moving. underarm has way more space so way more work for brain to do.

John Lewis says:

Really good idea

kmlgraph says:

What about a throat strike or eye jab while controlling the knife arm.
