Can you imagine running in and not knowing who the bad guy is? 😂 that would suck lol. I mean ya, I'm sure there were several indicators in this situation, like clothes for example, but I assume that some cases could get pretty confusing lol.
Good question John. No simple answer, since every situation must be considered individually. In general I always want to help, but have learned (from personal experience and your lessons) that being a bystander affords you a moment to evaluate the situation before jumping in. When you're the victim, you don't have that luxury…it's "go time" from the moment the bad guy initiates the attack. Use that precious time to your advantage.
Our first obligation is to keep our family safe, and part of that is keeping ourselves safe too. Once that's reasonably accomplished, it MIGHT be time to get involved. In this situation, the guy did exactly that…he took a moment to consider the situation then he jumped into the fray. He used what he had available to help him. What if there were multiple attackers? A trailing accomplice? A shotgun instead of a blade? Lots of innocent customers in the area? Lots to process quickly!!
I'd like to think that if this same robbery scenario was to occur here in Texas, Mr. Slicey McDicey would probably have gotten ventilated (at a minimum) and potentially become an organ donor with his grey matter splattered all over the lottery ticket dispenser.
People are so trained to do what they have seen. I think it would have been better to use the legs of the display case to poke hard almost like a stab.

I would poke the robber eyes with those lollipops

Not his first rodeo!
The balls on that man
Where’s an off duty Brazilian cop when you need one?
That genuinly makes me upset that the perp didn't take the room temperature challenge.
This guy needs to take the challenge
murdering dog. These are the kind of "people" we do not want in America we have enough of them already.
Liability is my only concern.
I will definitely defend myself my family and. anyone that needs my help so yes
I would thanks.

I wish they’d beaten that vicious animal to death.
The world wold be a better place.
Once he lost the knife and picked up the soda bottle, it's definitely on. You aint leavin.
Always mind your own business
I would step in every time
Definitely would have been best if that customer had a pistol and could have removed this guy from the planet.
I'm from south africa we are aloud guns but it's a long process to get 1 legally so most people don't bother.
