Since the UCR is complete for 2020 I'll use those figures. There were 734 murders in Louisiana (2020 population 4.665 million) vs 400 in houston (2020 population 4.681 million).

It's a natural response, especially for someone untrained, to think, "WHY are they doing this, what kind of person would do this, etc." When you SHOULD be thinking, "HOW can I defend myself against this, WHAT can I do to make myself safer."
