get to close swing around your Machete maby get a daywalker on your back
and probably want to have a bulletproof vest

Harry Williamson says:

have you thought about the self cocking bow

The Prepared Mind says:

I like the crossbow for hunting. I think that if there is a defensive need
for a single silent shot in relatively close range, it would be ideal. A
silent deployment would be great, but having additional backup, as well as
other team members, would be best to ensure a poor shot doesnt result in my
own death.

thanks for putting the question up and looking deeper at the crossbow as a
defensive tool.

Excellent video. Well said and well thought of. People still think life is
like TV. Forget the ZOMBIES and put a hungry man out foraging to feed his
family in front of you. Or worse case, a gang of derelicts hell bent on
going through you to get to your supplies. If you don’t put him / them down
on shot 1, there will NOT be any reloading. Nice specialty weapon for
hunting or a unique situation, but certainly not a primary weapon. (Unless
your on TV!! )

Using a crossbow is great for hunting…and can be good for defensive
purposes as well. The main benefit of a crossbow is it’s lack of sound when
compared to firearms. the disadvantage is that it’s east to determine from
which direction the shooter is firing from. However it would be good for
hunting and defensive purposes in a SHTF situation. When hunting, the
report of a high powered rifle would be like ringing a dinner bell for
anyone in the area. I would prefer my recurve or longbow though, I have
been practicing kyujutsu (Japanese archery) for years now, and I can fire
arrows accurately at about the same rate of fire as a bolt action rifle. My
range is limited, but within that range it can be just as deadly as a
rifle. For over 1000 years the archer was considered the most powerful
force on any battlefield. A group of organized archers can be a devastating
force. Even a single archer could be extremely effective if they know what
they are doing. I have a couple of crossbows, one compound type and one
recurve type, and I love them.

Nice vid

My wife is Indian she hunts with a recurve bow always brings home the meat.
for a wedding gift her uncle made me a bow. In the right hands they will
defend.

Marsh Rat says:

Totally agree with you about the time needed for the second shot. Same can
be said about black powder. I started with a cross bow, went to a compound
and last year back to the cross bow due to my rotator cuff. I think I’ll
be able to go back to the compound this year. Also agree that the price of
bolts/broad-heads are outrageous.
