For those saying I said not to spray OC in the eyes: PLEASE NOTE I SAID THAT SPECIFICALLY AND ONLY AT GRAPPLING DISTANCE. So he's subscribed and bought a pepper spray and got in a fight he couldn't win thinking he was the bad man? If he had no spray he would have lost the car anyway, just without the fight. Good thing they weren't armed with guns,knives etc. At some points it's just more sensible to give up your stuff, it's insured etc.
My advice is always carry a reliable loaded gun and in this situation shoot to kill, with head shots if you are well trained. Kill them both as quickly as possible – before they kill you. If you do not take them BOTH out you could be killed by the other. As for you John I'm sorry to say it's back to the drawing board
I have a question about your idea that lethal force would have been justified here. They didn't present a weapon. The statute where I live says you can use lethal force if you have the objective fear of death or grave bodily harm. I do not see how he could have objectively claimed that here.
It's Houston, your car is an extension of your house and you are legally able to defend it with deadly force in Texas. Perps are lucky he was not armed or they would be taking the stolen car temperature challenge.

Looks like OC Spray isn't as strong as Hot Lead
a bittersweet victory.
Spraying again is less than optimal. The propellant keeps the pepper wet. Two doses is less effective in most situations than 1 dose.
